6th Annual Fishing Derby – Gedney Pond: New Castle Recreation & Parks Department stocks Gedney Pond with a variety of fish for this catch-and-take home event. Menus in the Movies – Chappaqua Library: Spinning Plates is a documentary about three extraordinary restaurants: a cutting-edge restaurant named the seventh-best in the world whose chef battles a life-threatening obstacle to pursue his passion; a 150-year-old family restaurant still standing only because of the unbreakable bond with its community; and a fledgling Mexican restaurant whose owners are risking everything just to survive and provide for their young daughter. In the Season’s Shadow – Ars-Antiqua Chappaqua: Susan Lawrence Gourmet Foods’ chef, musician and classical music impresario, Mark Kramer presents six chamber pieces that capture the essence of the seasons, all written before Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. With special guests Heather Johnson (mezzo-soprano), Leah Nelson (baroque violin) and Jorg-Michael Schwarz, Karen Marmer and Dongsok Shin (harpsichord) from REBEL Baroque, Mark presents a program featuring Henry Purcell, The Cold Spring, Allessandro Scarlati, The Glory of Spring, James Oswald, Airs for the Seasons, Giovanni Guido, The Four Seasons and seasonal themed works from Vivaldi and Handel. 22nd Chappaqua School Foundation Spring Benefit: CSF’s 22nd annual Spring Benefit will be held at the Trump National Golf Club in Briarcliff Manor. The event offers cocktails, a buffet dinner and a raffle. Over the past 22 years CSF has raised over $2.25 million and funded over 200 grants and projects for Chappaqua schools including 3D printers, SMART Boards, e-Readers, Visual Arts and Fitness Center technology and more. Author Talk – Chappaqua Library: Austin Murnane, a 2002 graduate of Horace Greeley H.S. discusses his novel The War Storytellers. The book draws upon his experiences in Iraq, explaining how war stories originate and how they change in the telling. Austin is a Captain in the U.S.M.C.R., a law clerk for the U.S. District Judge, Southern District and Adj. Prof., Fordham Univ. School of Law. It’s a Beautiful Day in Our Neighborhood – Downtown Chappaqua: This event sponsored by the Chappaqua-Millwood Chamber of Commerce offers townies the chance to meet and greet town and school officials, first responders, shopkeepers and more. A duo from the Chappaqua Orchestra will perform, there will be a scavenger hunt, an airbrush event, tours of the police department including vehicles and equipment and the holding cell, a make a historic craft event at the Greeley House and more. The chamber will hand out self-guided tour maps outlining all the events, activities and special treats. The event starts at Town Hall and will include activities at the library and rec center. New Castle 10K Road Race and Fun Run: The 28th running of the New Castle 10K Road Race takes you on a challenging course from Town Hall through some of the most scenic landscapes in Chappaqua. Runners enjoy a police escort, water stations and a sag wagon for those of you who are off your game that day. Awards are offered in 8 age categories from under 14 to over 70. Check in between 6:45 and 8am for an 8:10am start. Or pre-register with the New Castle Recreation Department. Chappaqua Flea – Chappaqua Train Station: The Chappaqua Flea begins its second season at the train station, adjacent to the Chappaqua Farmers Market. Shop for collectibles, antiques, jewelry, vintage clothing, comic books and posters, crafts for kids, mid-century modern furniture, handmade soaps, collectibles from Asia and Africa and fashion items the third Saturday of the month beginning on May 21: 9am-1pm.
