Twisted Valentines, Axial Theatre – 2/10-19: Howard Meyer’s Axial Theatre presents an evening of “Non-Hallmark” one acts to celebrate the Valentine’s season.
The plays, selected by Axial’s Artistic Director Howard Meyer include, Double Date (Two’s company; three’s a crowd; a blind date becomes crowded) by award-winning playwright Albi Gorn; and Gin Joint (“In all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world she walks into his…in ‘the dress.’” by award-winning playwright and head instructor of Axial’s Playwriting program Gabrielle Fox. Menus in the Movies, Moonstruck, Chappaqua Library – Fri, 2/10: 7pm. Food author and film buff Carol Durst screens movies where food is the star, a thematic element or important part of the set design. The Bikinis, Westchester Broadway Theatre – 2/2-3/19: This new musical beach party follows a sixties girl group that returns to the Jersey Shore, where they got their start to raise money to save Sandy Shores Mobile Home Beach Resort. These Jersey Girls relive their heyday in a non-stop celebration of song with over 30 hits like “It’s In His Kiss”, “Yellow Polka Dot Bikini”, “The Twist”, “Heat Wave”, and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”. Two Henrys, Hudson Stage Company Armonk – Fri, 2/10: 7:30pm: Just $10 will get you into this staged reading of Kenneth Jones’ new play at NCPL. Two Henry was a semi-finalist for the O’Neill National Play Conference and was recently seen in workshop at the Pacific Resident Theatre in Venice, CA. Two Henrys is a humor laced-drama set somewhere between the days of the AIDS crisis and the dawn of marriage equality. Directed by Scottt Allen Evans and starring Susan Pellegrino. 34th Annual Young Artists Exhibition, Katonah Museum of Arts – Tues-Sat: 10am-5pm & Sun, 12-5pm 2/12-3/5. More than 400 artworks by high school students from over 40 schools across Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Dutchess, and Fairfield counties fill the KMA galleries. This unique program gives teens the opportunity to work behind-the-scenes to produce a museum exhibition. In the course of many months they take on the roles of graphic designer, curator, exhibition designer, art installer, and artist as they collaborate with professionals to produce this impressive exhibition. Linda Eder, White Plains Performing Arts Center – Sat, 2/11: 8pm. North Salem resident and Broadway star, Linda Eder performs in this benefit concert for WPPAC. Linda, the winner of the 1987 season of Star Search, originated the role of Lucy in the musical Jekyll and Hyde for which she received a Drama Desk nomination in 1997. Venice Baroque Orchestra, Performing Arts Center Purchase – Sat, 2/11: 8pm: National Public Radio called VBO “One of the world’s most adventurous and dramatic period-instrument ensembles.” Their discography includes the world premiere recording of Andromeda Liberata, Metastasio’s L’Olimpiade and Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. Purple Haze Hot Ticket Alert! Kronos Quartet, Performing Arts Center Purchase – Sun, 2/12: 3pm: Performing since 1972, Kronos Quartet gained notoriety with their 1986 string interpretation of Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze”. Since then they have composed 750 original works as well as covering a broad range of music genres from Mexican folk music to Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right”. They have performed genre-bending works with Pat Metheny, Tow Waits, David Bowie, Paul McCartney, David Grisman and the Dave Matthews Band.
