Gala Opener! Jaime Laredo conducts All-orchestral Gala Opener, Performing Arts Center, Sun, 10/21: 3pm: Jaime Laredo conducts the Westchester Phil in a program of Ravel, Haydn and Brahms. Including: Ravel’s sublime Pavane for a dead infant; Drumroll, one of Haydn’s final three symphonies, known for it’s mysterious timpani roll, that shows the composer at his very peak, and Brahms’ towering First Symphony that took 22 years to compose. Winter Pops, Rachel Worby conducts Time for Three, Performing Arts Center, Sun, 12/16: 3pm: Rachael Worby, (former Music Director of the Pasadena Pops, Wheeling Symphony, her own LA-based ensemble, Muse/ique) conducts the Westchester Phil and guests Time for Three with violists Nicolas Kendall and Charles Yang and bassist Ranaan Meyer. TFT defies genre classification, performing music from Bach to Brahms to bluegrass to the Beatles. Light classics, American Songbook gems, and holiday favorites round out the program. Rachel Worby conducts Savion Glover, Performing Arts Center, Sun, 2/10: 3pm: The incomparable Savion Glover, who first gained notice as the Tap Dance Kid, and created and starred in the Broadway smash Bring in Da’ Noise, Bring in Da’ Funk brings his unique artistry for an afternoon of music, and tap dance. Mr. Glover will dance to the music of Copland, Gould and Vivaldi performed by The Westchester Phil and conducted by Rachael Worby. Jaime Laredo conducts Pamela Frank (violin), Performing Arts Center, Sun, 4/7: 3pm: Of Pamela Frank, the Philadelphia Inquirer wrote: “She has a big, rich sound that vibrates, phrasing breathes with great purpose. Even single notes don’t leave the strings without meaning.” With Ms. Frank on violin, Maestro Laredo on the podium, and the virtuosic Westchester Philharmonic, Beethoven’s powerful and lyrical Fifth Symphony, couldn’t be in better hands.
