Lard Dog and The Band of Shy, Tarrytown Music Hall, Sat, 4/6; 11am & 1pm: Lard Dog burst on the New York entertainment scene in 2015 with an off-Broadway theatre run called, “Life’s A Real Dream”. With their quirky lyrics and infectious tunes the band has drawn comparisons to Devo, Pee Wee Herman, and the B52’s. Julius Caesar, Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival Live at The Bedford Playhouse, Sat, 4/13: 4:30pm: The Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival brings it’s 90 minute, student friendly live production of Shakespeare’s historical play Julius Caesar to The Bedford Playhouse. Seal Spotting & Birding Cruise, Maritime Aquarium, Sat-Sun, 3/30-31, 4/13-14 & 5/4-5: check times: On these 2.5 hour cruises on the Maritime Aquarium’s R/V Spirit of the Sound catamaran, you will seek out the seals that enter the Long Island Sound and graze on rocks near the Norwalk Islands in winter. Aquarium educators discuss seal anatomy and behaviors. The cruise offers photo ops for birders, as well, with winter waterfowl such as buffleheads, merganser, Brant geese and long-tailed ducks. Cool! Marine Life Encounter Cruises, Maritime Aquarium Norwalk, Sun, 5/6 & Sat-Sun, 5/46/23: 1:15-3:45pm. Study the biodiversity of Long Island Sound’s interdependent marine life on these catamaran cruises from the Maritime Aquarium Norwalk. Participants utilize such sampling techniques as a plankton tow, biodredge, mud grab and otter trawl that may bring up fish, crabs, lobsters, sea stars and more. Local! 19th Annual Fishing Derby at Lake Marie, Bedford Hills, Sun, 5/5: 12-3pm: This very popular program is open to all up to age 15. Bring the whole family and enjoy the beautiful weather as young anglers race to land the prize winning fish! Volunteers from the Sportsman’s Club of Northern Westchester will be on hand to help youngsters bait hooks, as well as provide fishing tips to first timers. Prizes will be awarded throughout the day. Bicycle Sundays on the Bronx River Parkway, Sun, 5/5-19 & 6/2-30: 10am-2pm: Bicycle Sundays return on May 6. The Westchester Parks Foundation closes off a six and a half mile stretch of the Bronx River Parkway for the exclusive use of bicyclists, joggers, scooters and strollers.
