Sarah Bishop Bushwack 10K: This challenging 10K trail race in North Salem’s Mountain Lakes Park traverses 1,000 acres of scenic woodlands, streams and lakes and offers beautiful vistas. The course features 1,000 feet of total elevation gain taking runners over Bailey Mountain – Westchester’s highest point.
If you’re familiar with the Leatherman’s Loop, Run the Farm, or Raven Rocks trail races, then you know how fun and challenging the terrain in Northern Westchester can be. The course starts at Hemlock Lake. It passes Lookout Point and continues over Bailey Mountain (at 982 feet, the highest point in Westchester). Nearing the Connecticut border, the course passes Spruce Lake, then finishes near Hemlock Lake. You can be sure that there will be seasonal streams that that you’ll cross but nothing too deep. Still, with 1200 feet of overall elevation gain in the 10k-ish race, there are plenty of challenging hills to make things interesting. If you’ve run the Leatherman’s Loop, you’ll understand why we like to say that the Sarah Bishop is hairier than the Leatherman.
The Sarah Bishop Bushwack 10K is limited to 400 participants and registration begins each year in January.
