Local! 13 Hands Help a Horse Day, Courtyard Farm, Bedford Hills, Sat, 5/4: 2-7pm: 13 Hands Equine Rescue Inc. presents this family fun day at Courtyard Farm to support their horse rescue efforts. 13 hands rescues horses from the slaughter pipeline, rehabilitates them and puts them up for adoption. Local! Sleeping With Wolves, Wolf Conservation Center South Salem, Sat, 4/27-10/19& Special Dates: 5pm-8:30am. These nocturnal adventures at the Wolf Conservation Center in South Salem offers families a chance to sleep out with over 20 wolves. You will see critically endangered red and Mexican wolves, have a pizza party with Ambassador Wolves, watch a movie under the stars, and enjoy fireside snacks and breakfast. Cool! Marine Life Encounter Cruises, Maritime Aquarium Norwalk, Sat-Sun & Memorial Day, 5/4- 27: 1:15-3:45pm. Study the biodiversity of Long Island Sound’s interdependent marine life on these catamaran cruises from the Maritime Aquarium Norwalk. Participants utilize such sampling techniques as a plankton tow, biodredge, mud grab and otter trawl that may bring up fish, crabs, lobsters, sea stars and more. Boundless Adventures, Purchase College, Fri, 3-8pm & Sat-Sun, 9am-8pm though June 14: Boundless Adventures aerial park’s spring hours continue at Purchase College. Daily hours begin June 15 and run through Labor Day. Bring you inner monkey! Local! 19th Annual Fishing Derby at Lake Marie, Bedford Hills, Sun, 5/5: 12-3pm: This very popular program is open to all up to age 15. Bring the whole family and enjoy the beautiful weather as young anglers race to land the prize winning fish! Volunteers from the Sportsman’s Club of Northern Westchester will be on hand to help youngsters bait hooks, as well as provide fishing tips to first timers. Prizes will be awarded throughout the day. Ben Model’s Silent Comedies Live!, Bedford Playhouse, Sun, 5/5: 1pm: The nation’s leading silent film accompanist, Ben Model provides the improvisational piano to this screening of three classic silent film short comedies. Bicycle Sundays on the Bronx River Parkway, Sun, 5/5-19 & 6/2-30: 10am-2pm: Bicycle Sundays return on May 6. The Westchester Parks Foundation closes off a six and a half mile stretch of the Bronx River Parkway for the exclusive use of bicyclists, joggers, scooters and strollers. Morning Farm Chores, Muscoot Farm, Sat, 5/11: 8am-9am: Children ages 8 & up along with their grown-ups get to learn the morning routine at Muscoot and help feed cows, collect hen eggs, and more! Long Island Sound Lighthouse Cruise, Maritime Aquarium Norwalk, Sat, 5/11: 1:15-3:45pm: Venture out on the Maritime Aquarium’s Spirit of the Sound catamaran for rare close-up looks at five lighthouses from Norwalk’s Sheffield Island Lighthouse to the lighthouse at Stratford Shoal near Bridgeport, CT. Baah! Sheep Shearing & Farmers Market at Muscoot Farm, Sun, 5/12: 12-3:pm. Every Mother’s Day Muscoot Farm shears its adult sheep and the public is invited to watch them get their spring haircut. Local! 44th St. Patrick’s School Carnival in Bedford, Tues-Sun, 5/14-19: The local carnival season kicks off at St. Patrick’s School in Bedford. One of the state’s biggest grossing carnivals, this event raises money for educational ministries of the parish. Kiki’s Delivery Service, Jacob Burns Film Center, Sat, 5/18: 12pm: From legendary animator Hayao Miyazaki (My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away) comes the beloved story of a young witch-in-training who is determined to make something of herself. Saying farewell to her family and small country town, Kiki flies off on her broomstick accompanied by her chatty black cat, Jiji as she heads to the big city in this coming-of-age tale. Ages 5+. Local! 6th Annual Stayin’ Alive 5K & Fun Run, Armonk, Sat. 5/18: 8am: The run starts at The Windmill Club and continues through Windmill’s woodsy community. Stayin’ Alive has raised $150,000 for needed equipment for first responder’s in North Castle (Armonk, Banksville & N. White Plains) and surrounding towns. Pinkster Day, Philipsburg Manor, Sat, 5/18: 12-5pm: The only living museum dedicated to the history of slavery in the north, recreates this 17th century African-American spring celebration with a colonial-style festival of music, dance and food. Local! New Castle 5k & 10K Road Race & Fun Run, Sun, 5/19: 8am: This challenging course takes you from Town Hall through some of Chappaqua’s most scenic landscapes. Crohn’s & Colitis Take Steps Walk & Festival, Purchase College, Sun, 5/19: 4pm: Run or walk to find a cure for digestive diseases. The Take Steps walk and 5K run is the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s largest event of the year. This run/walk festival offers IBD friendly food, Kids activities and local entertainment. Bethpage Air Show, Jones Beach, Sat-Sun, 5/25-26: 10am-3pm: The US Air Force Thunderbirds return for the 16th Annual Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach. on Memorial Day Weekend. Plus the US Army Golden Knights, the American Air Power Museum Warbirds, the Geico Skytypers, Screaming Sasquatch and more. Get there early. Up to 200,000 people are expected to fill the beach with parking lots filled by 9:00am. When this happens, the parkways are closed and people are turned away. Local! Lewisboro/South Salem Memorial Day Races & Fair, 10K, 5K, Mile Fun Run & Pee Wee Races, Mon, 5/27: 8am: The 10K race at 8am takes you on challenging South Salem hills.The 5K starts at 9:30am. Both races are USA Track and Field certified. The youth Mile Fun Run is at 10:45am and Pee Wee races for 2-8 year olds are at 11:05am. Register online or on race day at 7am. Trans Am Series by Pirelli World, Sportscar Vintage Racing Ass’n & Royals Car Show, Rock Park Memorial Day Season Opener, Fri-Mon, 5/24-27: The weekend mixes races from modern and vintage race cars. From 200 mph Trans Am muscle car events (Mustangs, Camaros, Challengers and Corvettes) to Sportscar Vintage Racing Ass’n events that feature classic Jaguars and Porsches, and provide a “rolling history” of motorsport.
