The Westchester Philharmonic’s 2019-20 Season
The Westchester Philharmonic’s recently announced 2019-20 season is one of their most exciting in years. It features top conductors such as Rachel Worby and Eric Jacobsen, the co-founder of The Knights. And top guest talent including pianists Ron Dank and HyeJin Kim, and young violinists Simone Porter and Ray Ushibuko – just 18.
Best of all, they will be performing some of the best known works from Ludwig van Beethoven to Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin. Plus. Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring in a special Earth Day Celebration. The Westchester Philharmonic performs at the Performing Arts Center at Purchase College on Sundays at 3pm. The Westchester Philharmonic: Breaking New Ground: Sun, October 27: 3pm
Eric Jacobsen, (co-founder of The Knights; Music Director of Orlando Philharmonic and Bridgeport Symphony) conducts The Westchester Philharmonic and the astonishing young violinist Simone Porter. Ms. Porter has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic in recent years. The program features the adventurous Entr’acte from Pulitzer Prize-winner Caroline Shaw, Samuel Barber’s dynamic Violin concerto and Brahms’ Symphony No. 2. Rachael Worby conducts the Westchester Phil and guest pianist HyeJin Kim in a program that explores jazz and Latin jazz influences on American classical music. The program includes Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” , Bernstein’s “Times Square” from On The Town, Bizet’s Carmen.maquia, Jed Feur’s world premiere of “4am” and Duke Ellington’s River Suite. West Side Story Alert! Westchester Philharmonic, A Sound Vision: Sun, February 9: 3pm
Rachael Worby conducts The Westchester Phil and guest violinist Ray Ushikubo in a performance of .Leonard Bernstein’s famed West Side Story score arranged as a tour-de-force concerto. Ray Ushikubo has performed with the LA Philharmonic, LA Chamber Orchestra, Reno Philharmonic, San Diego Symphony, and has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Disney Hall, and on The Tonight Show. He is a Davidson Fellow Laureate, and was prominently featured on the nationally syndicated From the Top. And he just turned 18. And he debuted at 8. A-n-d he is also a highly regarded pianist. Appalachian Spring Alert! Westchester Philharmonic Eternal Spring: Earth Day Celebration: Sun, April 19: 3pm
Conductor Jayce Ogren, who began his career on a high rung as the Cleveland Orchestra’s assistant conductor, is joined by Israeli pianist Ran Dank for Beethoven’s most intimate Piano Concerto No. 4. And to honor the 50th anniversary of Earth Day on April 22nd, the Phil will perform two works composed as love letters to our planet – Mendolssohn’s Hebrides Overture, and Aaron Copland’s iconic Appalchian Spring, the complete ballet.
