Editors Pick! Stanley Jordan Plays Jimi, Emelin Theatre: World-renowned jazz guitarist Stanley Jordan brings his new show “Stanley Jordan Plays Jimi” (Hendrix) to the Emelin Theatre. If you think this is just another tribute show you don’t know Stanley Jordan. A four-time Grammy-nominee, Jordan is famous for his revolutionary style where he strikes the fretboard with two hands – like playing a piano. His 1985 Magic Touch was an instant jazz classic and was #1 on Billboard’s jazz chart for 51 weeks.
The album straddled Jordan’s interest in jazz, pop and rock and featured jazz classics Miles Davis’ “Freddy the Freeloader” and Thelonious Monk’s “Round Midnight”. As well as Lennon & McCartney’s “Eleanor Rigby” and “Angel” from Jimi Hendrix. Now more than three decades later Jordan goes all in on Jimi in this show. Jordan’s career collaborations have also crossed genres. He has performed with Benny Carter, Dizzie Gillespie, Miles Davis, the Dave Matthews Band, Umphrey’s McGee and Moe.
Whats more, WTD went to college with Stanley.
