Art Show: Bedford: Founded in 1973 by the Women of St. Matthew’s Church, Art Show: Bedford is a juried exhibition highlighting local and NYC artists. Over forty artists will participate in this year’s show. You can shop for paintings, photographs and sculpture. Also hand-made jewelry, glass items and pottery at all price points.
This year’s show is curated by Christopher Brescia, Director, The CB Gallery in Katonah. Kim Henrikson, Executive Director, Center for Contemporary Printmaking, Cybele Maylone, Executive Director, Aldrich Museum and Peter McGill are the show’s judges.
All proceeds from the exhibition and sale are donated to local community charities. Such as Hope’s Door, Abbott House, Boys & Girls Club and Community Center of Northern Westchester.
Adam D. Handler: Adam was born in 1986 in Queens, NY and grew up on Long Island. Handler received a BA in Art History from Purchase College, SUNY, in 2008, and is a graduate student in Art History at City College of New York. Handler studied Life Drawing in Italy, craft design with Jorge Nieves, and photography with Debra Mesa-Pelly. Notable recent exhibitions have been at Fred Torres Gallery, NY; Vered Gallery, East Hampton, NY; and The Children’s Museum of Westchester, Rye, NY.
Natalya Aikens: Iron Vessel: Natalya’s art is an extension of her commitment to using recycled and repurposed materials, a lifelong advocacy. Her detailed works are nuanced and reimagined images inspired by the lines of the urban environment. A close examination of Natalya’s art reveals delightful and unexpected combinations of materials as diverse as vintage lace, plastic sheeting, and candy wrappers, layered and collaged with machine and hand stitching.
Lisa Abzun, painter and printmaker, studied with Master Printer, Lisa Mackie at the Katonah Arts Center, the Center for Contemporary Printmaking (Norwalk, CT), Manhattan Graphics Center(New York) and the Woodstock School of Art (Woodstock, NY).
Laura Gould: Snow Shadows Ward Pound Ridge: Laura studied at The School of Visual Arts and the worked as a graphic designer and freelance illustrator in NYC. For the last 15 years she has tought botanical Art at The New York Botanical Gardens, Ward Pound Ridge Reservation and Lasdon Arbortum. She is currently working in oils. The land, trails and villages of the Hudson Valley and Cape Cod are her subjects of her painting. And her inspiration.
Jane Cooper, Baring Blue: Jane Cooper refers to her work as abstracted representation. Her imagery delineates form and alters focus; both amplifying and obscuring recognizable shapes and shadows. She explores colors, mediums and composition to create an atmospheric sense of place and time. Her work has been exhibited in numerous countries, is among Corporate and private collections as well as in galleries on the East Coast. Jane is both a painter and a printmaker working from her Katonah, New York studio and the studios at The Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk, CT.
Rich Alexander, Cape Cod Light: In 2009 Rich Alexander had the good fortune of meeting Illustrator Alan Reingold while Rich was designing the 9/11 firefighter Memorial in Mt. Kisco, NY. Alan encouraged him to attend his portrait classes in Mt. Kisco and at Parsons School of Design in NYC. After working with Alan for two years Rich met fine artist Geoff Barbey who instructed Rich in oil painting at his Dobbs Ferry Studio. Geoff introduced Rich to famed landscape painter John Osborne who taught traditional painting at the Ridgewood Art Institute in Ridgewood NJ and Rich has been painting at the Ridgewood Art Institute ever since.
