Caramoor Livestream in April: Caramoor’s spring Rosen House performances may be down but they are not out! Although they were forced to cancel several performances they pivoted quickly to explore the possibility of live-streaming others on their schedule.
Right now they have three livestream events schedule for April. Each will be performed live, without an audience, from the Rosen House Music Room. Future programming decisions will be made one month at a time, or as situations change vis a vis shelter in place and social distancing requirements in place due to the Coronavirus.
Here’s the line-up for April
Cancelled! Vijay Ayer, Sat. April 4: 8pm: Composer-pianist Vijay Iyer is a 2013 MacArthur Fellow and a four-time DownBeat Artist of the Year. The New York Times wrote: “There’s probably no frame wide enough to encompass the creative output of the pianist Vijay Iyer.” Here’s your link.
Aaron Diehl Trio, Sat, April 18: 8pm: The Aaron Diehl Trio is presented in collaboration with Jazz at Lincoln Center. A classically trained pianist, The New York Daily News called him “a rising star of jazz piano [with] an individual talent so huge that one day he may extend the jazz tradition.” His band includes Aaron Kimmel on drums and Paul Sikivie on bass. Conrad Dao, Sun April 26: 3pm: An Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient and winner of the Gilmore Young Artist award, composer-pianist Conrad Tao is known for his innovative juxtapositions of old and new. The New York Times called him an artist of “probing intellect and open-hearted vision.” The New York Times also cited him “one of five classical music faces to watch” in the 2018-19 season. Tentatively schedule for May
Caramoor’s final spring Rosen House programming for May is subject to change. However if theaters in our area open up by then Caramoor’s schedule features Tony Award-nominee Laura Osnes (Cinderella, Anything Goes) and Santino Fontana on Saturday, May 2. Composer/conductor Rob Kapilow leads the Thalea String Quartet in a program featuring Beethoven’s String Quartet in F Major, Op.18, No. 1 on Sunday, May 3. And Della Mae brings their Grammy-nominated Kentucky Bluegrass vibes for the finally Roots in the Rosen House performance of the spring on Saturday, May 9.
Caramoor Summer Season
Then it’s all hands on deck for Caramoor’s 75th Summer Season, 32 days and nights of classical, jazz, opera, roots and world music beginning on June 20. Summer highlights include Wynton Marsalis and The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Taj Mahal, a Sondheim Celebration, Onsite Opera’s Barber of Seville, Apollo’s Fire performing the complete Brandenburg Concertos. And The Classical Theatre of Harlem and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra retell Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
