Cancellations Continue amid Signs of Hope
Cancellations Continue amid Signs of Hope: The New York Botanical Garden is temporarily closed and their 2020 Orchid Show that was scheduled to run through April 19 will not reopen! Meanwhile, the music and performing arts venues continued to postpone events this week.
The Connecticut venues, The Ridgefield Playhouse and The Palace Stamford, have cleared their calendars through the end of April and have been moving May shows over the past week, as well. Meanwhile Paramount Hudson Valley, Tarrytown Music Hall and Port Chester’s Capitol Theatre are in the process of clearing out their April calendars as all indications emerge that social distancing guidelines will continue through to May.
The Palace Stamford
The Palace has postponed all events through April 30, in compliance with Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont’s Emergency Order for the Prohibition of social or recreational gatherings in excess of 250 people. Included in the April postponements are a night of standup with 30 Rock star and Saturday Night Live guest star Tracy Morgan and a two-part Fateful Beethoven series from the Stamford Orchestra. Four family events were also postponed including Wild Kratts Live, The Illusionists on Broadway star Rick Thomas, Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers and The Tanglewood Marionettes.
The Palace has maintained a skeletal schedule in May but picks up again in mid-June with two nights of Kids Bop Live. Further June events include Menopause: The Musical, originally scheduled for March 27 and Daughtry, originally scheduled for March 25th and a recently added event on June, 20, The Doo Wop Show. Summer highlights include Steve Martin and Martin Short in The Funniest Show in Town at the Moment on August 27.
Comedian Lewis Black’s performance was rescheduled from May 2 to September 12, The Indigo Girls’ March 20 show moved to September 23 and the Las Vegas show MJ Live, a Michael Jackson Tribute, originally scheduled for March 28 is slotted in on September 24. Neil Berg’s 50 Years of Rock and Roll moved from April 30 to September 4.
The Ridgefield Playhouse
The Ridgefield Playhouse has also cancelled all shows in April and most May shows, as well. However they have booked new shows and moved postponed shows into early June. We suspect we will see the rest of the May shows moving within the next few days. Currently their June schedule features 15 shows including new bookings and rescheduled shows from March, April and May.
The big June highlight at The Ridgefield Playhouse is Jay Leno on June 10. Rescheduled events include The Musical Box’s Genesis Extravaganza that moved from April 1 to June 14. 2019 American Idol Finalist Jeremiah Lloyd Norman’s originally scheduled March 14 show was re-scheduled for June 6. Other June bookings include comedian Randy Rainbow on June 4, Gordon Lightfoot on June 7, Chaka Khan on June 18, Tommy Emanuel on June 25 and Jon Anderson of Yes on June 29.
Paramount Hudson Valley
Paramount Hudson Valley has cancelled all events through May 8 – when former SNL-er Tim Breuer is scheduled to perform. However all other May dates are either already scheduled or are in the process of moving to another date. Things pick up again in June with some new listings including the political satire group, The Capitol Steps, comedy night with Scary Mommy! and The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Many spring events have already been rescheduled including A Night With Woodstock Greats: Joplin & Santana on July 17, The Bell Bottom Blues Clapton tribute on August 22, The B-Street Band Tribute to the Boss on September 17 and world renowned psychic medium James Van Praagh on October 4.
Tarrytown Music Hall
The Tarrytown Music Hall has rescheduled their April 19 Rick Thomas Illusionist show to April 25. And One Night of Queen has moved from April 24 to May 2. This is the most aggressive (optimistic) rescheduling we have seen. We will be monitoring the Tarrytown Playhouse over the next week and will update our calendars as new information develops. Other May shows still on the books are Martin Sexton and KT Tunstall on May 2, Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt on May 4 and Ricky Lee Jones on May 15. We will be monitoring the Tarrytown Playhouse over the next week and will update our calendars as new information develops.
Capitol Theatre
One the weekend The Capitol Theatre cancelled their two sold-out Sheryl Crow shows scheduled for April 17 and 21. Their current schedule doesn’t pick up until May 8 & 9 when the red hot Grateful Dead tribute band, Dark Str Orchestra, will perform two shows there. Next up are 2X Grammy-nominated band Rival Sons on May 14. Followed by Blues Traveler on May 15. Saving Grace, featuring Robert Plant and Dian, is slotted in for May 19. Again, we are not adding pre-Memorial Day shows for at least another week. But we have added Bela Flek & The Flektones (a WTD Fave Rave) at The Cap on June 5 here.
As previously reported, The Performing Arts Center at Purchase College, whose 12019-20 season runs through early May, has cancelled the remainder of their season.
Caramoor Summer Festival
But we’re all optimistic about a safe start for the Caramoor Summer Festival that opens on June 20 with Wynton Marsalis & The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (another WTD fave rave.) You can see all the Caramoor Summer Festival Events including the American Roots Festival with Taj Mahal, the Jazz Festival, Onsite Opera’s Barber of Seville, Apollo’s Fire’s performance of the complete Brandenburg Concertos, A Sondheim Celebration, and more on our searchable calendar.
