The Met Opera in HD: Madama Butterfly: Puccini’s Madama Butterfly returns to RPH’s big screen, the third transmission in the Met’s 2019–20 Live in HD season. The opera stars soprano Hui He in the heartbreaking title role, opposite tenor Bruce Sledge as Pinkerton. The cast also features mezzo-soprano Elizabeth DeShong and baritone Paulo Szot, who reprise their celebrated portrayals of Suzuki and Sharpless, respectively. Pier Giorgio Morandi conducts. The transmission will be hosted by soprano Christine Goerke, who starred in the title role of Puccini’s Turandot earlier this season.
