0 Guidance on Weddings and In-Person Catered Events
Following Governor Cuomo’s recent announcement that weddings, birthday parties and other catered events can resume beginning March 15, his office issued guidance to restaurants and catering halls. This summary of his guidance was released from Westchester County and we are passing it on to our readers here. In case you are planning a wedding, Bar/Bat Mitzvah or other celebration in a restaurant or catering hall or other event destination.
In order to reopen, establishments must review and comply with the updated Detailed Guidelines for Food Services on the Phase Three webpage of New York Forward.
A direct link to the full, updated guidance can be found here. Some key takeaways include:
- Occupancy of in-person and catered events is limited to the lesser of: 50% for a particular area as set by the certificate of occupancy, or 150 people, exclusive of employees and event staff.
- Venues must notify their respective county health department or local public health authority if they plan to host in-person and catered events above the State’s maximum social gathering limit, which is 50 people, as of February 24, 2021.
- Each attendee (if not a minor) must sign-in and provide their full name, date of birth, address, email, and phone number for use in potential contact tracing efforts, if necessary.
- All attendees must receive a negative diagnostic test result for COVID-19 using a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized test within 72 hours of the event start time.
- Employees and event staff must also be tested for COVID-19 through a diagnostic test prior to events, and must be tested biweekly thereafter for as long as they are actively engaged in hosting events and interacting in close contact with attendees.
- All attendees must practice social distancing by maintaining a distance of, at least, six feet from other individuals, except for members of the same immediate party/household/family.
- All attendees over the age of 2 and medically able, employees, and event staff must wear acceptable face coverings at all times; attendees may remove their face coverings when seated at their assigned table to eat or drink.
- Attendees cannot congregate, except when seated at their assigned table. Attendees should only be standing when necessary, when essential to the event or other permitted times as outlined in the guidance.
- Live music, entertainment and/or dancing is permitted within the outlined parameters, which will be revisited by the State as the public health condition continues to change.
