Ridgefield Playhouse Announces Outdoor Lineup for May: The Ridgefield Playhouse, who under the direction of one of our COVID Arts Heroes Allison Stockel, has sustained an amazing schedule of outdoor, livestream and indoor socially distanced events within Connecticut DOH COVID Guidelines, recently announced five great music and comedy outdoor tent events, several of which will also be live-streamed. Here’s what RPH is serving up in May.
Jessica Kirson & Christine O’Leary, Saturday, May 1: Jessica Kirson and Christine O’Leary take their comedy outdoors at this socially distanced stand-up show under the tent. Veteran comic Jessica Kirson’s comedic character videos have racked up over 30 million views on social media. She has appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and was recently awarded “Best Female Comic” by the MAC Association in New York City. O’Leary has worked with the top comedians including Susie Essman, Chevy Chase, Sinbad and Tracy Morgan, just to name a few. Christine also teaches standup classes at the theater and this show will showcase two of her students, including RPH Executive Director, Allison Stockel herself. Christian McBride & Tip City, Featuring Emmet Cohn (piano) & Dan Wilson – Friday, May 7: Grammy Award-winning composer, and bassist extraordinaire – Christian McBride teams up with jazz pianist Emmet Cohen and Dan Willson for some tent and livestream jazz. McBride scored his 7th Grammy win earlier this year in the Best Jazz Instrumental Album category for his work on “Trilogy 2″ alongside jazz fusion icon Chick Corea. He has performed with Sting, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, Roy Haynes, Freddie Hubbard and George Duke. Emmet Cohen is the winner of the 2019 American Pianists Awards and the Cole Porter Fellow of the American Pianists Association. Michael Glabicki of Rusted Root with Dirk Miller, Saturday, May 8: Rusted Root front-man Michael Glabicki and longtime Rusted Root guitar player and background vocalist, Dirk Miller bring a stripped down version of their acoustic folk, rock and world music to the RPH tent. Rusted Root is best known for their Platinum selling album, When I Woke, which produced the hit song “Send Me On My Way,” and launched the band into international stardom. Alongside acts like Blues Traveler, Dave Matthews Band and Widespread Panic, Rusted Root toured relentlessly and recorded major label albums for years to come. Seth Meyers, Sunday, May 16: The Emmy Award-winning writer and host of “Late Night with Seth Meyers” returns after two sold out shows in 2019! Meyers began his TV career as a writer and cast member on “Saturday Night Live” for 13 seasons, hosting the show’s popular “Weekend Update” segment. Meyers currently executive produces the comedy “A.P. Bio” and “The Amber Ruffin Show” on Peacock. He executive produced and lent his voice to Hulu’s animated superhero show “The Awesomes,” which ran for three seasons. Most recently, Meyers joined forces with “SNL” alums Fred Armisen and Bill Hader to create IFC’s Emmy-nominated docu-parody series “Documentary Now!” Tent Tickets Available Here.
Echoes of Sinatra: Steve Kazlauskas, Sunday, May 23: A Ridgefield Playhouse mainstay, the popular show Echoes of Sinatra outdoors presents the vocal stylings of Steve Kazlauskas paying homage to the legendary Sinatra with all of your fave raves – “Come Fly with Me,” “Witchcraft,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” “Strangers in the Night,” “It Was a Very Good Year,” “That’s Life,” “Summer Wind,” “The Lady is A Tramp” and “New York, New York.” The show includes insider stories, tracing Sinatra’s life and career through classic songs now considered part of the Great American Songbook. Steve Kazlauskas corresponded directly with Sinatra by mail and has performed throughout the country, interpreting the Chairman of the board’s music while capturing the sound, feel and expression of the man himself.
