Cuomo’s New York Spring – State Fair Returns: Governor Andrew Cuomo announced today that the New York State Fair will return this year in a reimagined format. The 2021 Reimagined New York State Fair is an eighteen day end-of-summer celebration held at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse from August 20 to September 6. The fair features live music and entertainment, Midway rides, agricultural education and awareness exhibits and events and food and drink.
This year’s fair will be limited to 50% capacity with capacity limits subject to change depending on COVID developments. The fair will also be sectioned off into four different and concurrent festivals across the 375 acre fairgrounds. The fair will feature daily concerts from top name acts including REO Speedwagon, Dropkick Murphys, Sheena Easton, Great White and Vixen and the Oak Ridge Boys.
Other festival highlights include the Pizze Fritte, sausage sandwiches and wine slushies; amusement rides, games and attractions, and farm animals! Admission is $3 per person, with children under 12 admitted free of charge.
Capacity Limits Increase On May 15
The Governor also announced that office capacity limits will increase on May 15 from 50% to 75%. Gyms outside of New York City will increase from 33% to 50%. Casinos and gaming facilities will increase from 25% to 50%. And on May 19, large outdoor spectator events can increase from 20% to 33% capacity.
Museums, Zoo and movie theatre capacity limits officially increased today from 33% to 50%. And Cuomo announced last week that sports arena’s capacity will be set at 25% beginning on May 19 to coincide with the beginning of the NBA playoffs.
COVID & Vaccine Updates: Over 44% of NY-ers Have One Jab
The governor also announced that New York’s seven-day positivity rate dropped to 2.13%. New York’s Mid-Hudson Region, which includes Westchester County, was 2.47%. Western New York, the state’s only region remaining above three percent was 3.53% last week.
On the Vaccination front, New York State administered more than 1.1 million doses of the vaccine last week. To date just under 8.8 million New Yorkers, or 44.1% of the population, has received at least one dose of the vaccine. And just over 6.2 million New Yorkers, or 31.1% of the population, has completed their vaccination series.
Finally, New York received over 738,000 vaccine doses last week in the range of it’s allotments over the past six weeks with the exception of the week from April 5 to 12, before the pause on the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, when New York’s allotment exceeded one million. With the pause lifted on the J&J vaccine New York could see weekly allotments rising in the near future.
