Pandemic Players: Tartuffe by Moliere
The Schoolhouse Theater’s Pandemic Players’ weekly (impromptu) play readings continue with this presentation of Moliere’s comedy Tartuffe originally produced n 1664. Often referred to as The Impostor or The Hypocrite, Tartuffe is the nightmare houseguest in the House of Orgon, a pious fraud and vagrant who wins the trust of Orgon and his mother eventually becoming engaged to Orgon’s daughter and at the same time attempting to seduce his wife.
The play received its first Broadway production in 1965 and its most recent revival was staged by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2018.
