Schoolhouse Theatre Live Presents Martha Clarke’s Canticle in North Salem before it opens at La Mama in NYC
Here’s your chance to see Canticle (God’s Fool), by the world-renowned Martha Clarke before it moves to Off-Broadway’s legendary theater La Mama. It is also the first production of the beloved Schoolhouse Theater (Westchester’s oldest professional theatrical venue) since Covid. Presented at the beautiful Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden, it is the first public performance of MacArthur Genius Award Winner Martha Clarke’s story about the mystic Saint Francis of Assisi, whose extraordinary rejection of wealth, animus against cruelty and ethereal love of all animals is a parable that speaks deeply to our time.
After it’s run at La Mama, Canticle will be go to Spoleto, Italy and return to North Salem’s Hammond Museum & Japanese Stroll Garden for a summer reprise.

About Martha Clarke
Martha Clarke is a theater director and choreographer whose best know original work is The Garden of Earthly Delights an exploration in theatre, dance, music and flying of the painting by Hieronymus Bosch. She was a founding member of Pilobylus, and has choreographed for the Joffrey Ballet, American Theatre Ballet and the Martha Graham Dance Company. She directed A Midsummer Nights Dream for the American Repertory Theatre and The Magic Flute for the Glimmerglass Opera.
