Worth the Trip: Best Menus HVRW
La Casa Bronxville, Bronxville: (Brunch $29.95: Sat/Sun & Dinner $39.95 Sun–Thurs) We’re taking a flyer on La Casa Bronxville’s “elevated Mexican and artisanal cocktails” because of Chef Victor “Erik” Lopez, who spent nine years working side by side with Chef Cosme Aguilar at the seven-time Michelin rated Casa Enrique in Long Island City. And because, “check out the dining room.” (top of page.) How many Mexican restaurants look like that? And because Tres Leches cake is on their HVRW menu at both dinner and brunch. And because, “look at the way they serve their guacamole.” (7 Pondfield Rd., Bronxville, lacasabronxville.com)
Saint George Bistro, Hasting on Hudson: (Dinner $44.95: Wed–Sun) Remember when The New York Times reviewed Westchester restaurants? Their review of Saint George Bistro (2014) is ancient but it is Excellent. Meaning it received an Excellent – a rarity in Westchester from The New York Times. Saint George opened in that year in the former Buffet de la Gare space, after a renovation that preserved the pressed tin and etched glass decor, and the mahogany bar. And you have to like the attitude they bring to their HVRW menu that includes Poulet Frites, Moule Frites and Steak Frites – in case you’re particulate with what protein you choose with your frites. Plus Coq Au Vin and Rainbow Trout in a lemon beurre blanc. (155 Southside Ave., Hastings on Hudson; saintgeorgebistro.com)
Millstream, Woodstock: (Dinner $44.95: Thurs–Sun) Along with an HVRW menu that features Fried Artichoke Hearts, Crispy Sambal Shrimp and Veritas Farm Lamb Bourguignon – you get a great stream side setting. And award-winning Chef Dan Silverman. After helming kitchens for Danny Meyer and David Bouley in NYC, Dan was named Food & Wine’s Best New Chef in 1997, won the James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant in 2004 and a Michelin Star – four times. (114 Mill Hill Rd., Woodstock; www.millstreamwoodstock.com)
