Two Bachs: London & Berlin – Music, Art & Patronage in the Age of Enlightenment
(Followed by a Buffet of English & German Cheeses with Mulled Wine)
Through the music of Johann Sebastian Bach’s sons, we are given a glimpse into two very different musical worlds.
Johann Christian (the London Bach) was a cosmopolite who composed wonderfully effervescent music for London’s concert halls and opera houses.
Carl Philipp Emanuel (the Berlin Bach) created brooding and introspective music for the intimate private concerts given by his patron, Frederick the Great.
