Taconic Opera Moves to the Tarrytown Music Hall: Carmen
After 26 years at The Yorktown Stage, The Taconic Opera will make its operatic debut at its new home the Tarrytown Music Hall with Georges Bizet’s Carmen on November 2 and 3. This is a seminal event for this Peekskill based company whose work can now reach more people in a concert quality environment. And, I might add, it makes it more convenient for What To Do’s readers.
Carmen is one of the most famous operas of all time. The opera tells the story of the downfall of Don José, a naïve officer, who is seduced by the fiery Carmen.
The opera created a scandal when first performed because of its immorality, lawlessness, and violence. It is well known for its arias “Habanera,” “Seguidilla,” and the famous “Toreador song.”
