Alt-Halloween Celebrations in Armonk Bedford & Chappaqua
Alt-Halloween Celebrations in Bedford: As towns and parents struggle with how to celebrate Halloween during this pandemic some Halloween alternatives are starting to take shape.
Chappaqua
While Chappaqua’s famed Ragamuffin parade has been cancelled, Tara Mikolay of the Desires by Mikolay jewelry store and other downtown merchants have ironed out plans for a safe Merchant Trick-or-Treat with town board and PTA members. Downtown merchants will offer individually wrapped, grab n go candies at outside tables – while New Castle Police will monitor social distancing. This three-day event will run from 2 to 5pm on October 28 for pre-schoolers, October 29th for elementary school children and October 30 for middle-schoolers.
Armonk
The Town of North Castle has cancelled its Trunk-Or-Treat event and the Police Department will not close Wampus and Glendale Avenue for Trick-or-Treating this year and will close school parking lots at noon on October 31st to discourage door to door activity and large gatherings. They are however collecting ideas for alternative ways to celebrate (such as virtual costume contests) on the Town Administrator’s page.
Bedford
Meanwhile, The Town of Bedford announced that it is “encouraging the community to skip traditional door to door trick-or-treating this year.” However Bedford Recreation and The Bedford Village Chowder and Marching Club are each organizing safe alternative celebrations.
The Chowder and Marching Club will sponsor a drive-through celebration at St. Patrick’s School that will feature a display of lit jack-o-lanterns on October 30. And Bedford Recreation is organizing a structured trick-or-treat event that will follow COVID-19 protocols on Saturday, October 31 from 2 to 8pm at Bedford Hills Memorial Park. Every person attending is required to register for an entry time slot, including parents/adults accompanying children. You can visit the Recreation and Park Department online registration site, and search Special Events. Bedford Entry times will be set every 20 minutes to regulate the flow of foot traffic.
Plus, the Bedford Playhouse just announced they will be hosting a Hocus Pocus Outdoor Movie Night at the Rippowam Cisqua School field on October 31 @ 6pm.
