The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze, Van Cortland Manor – Evenings Fri, 9/29- Sat, 11/25: Walk through a path of 5,000 hand-carved, illuminated jack o’lanterns set against an historic, 18th-century riverside landscape. Highlights include a headless horseman, a working doomsday grandfather clock, and gourd filled jack in the boxes, and dinosaurs from Jurassic Park – all made out of jack-o-lanterns. Object Out Loud, Arman and Nick Cave, Katonah Museum of Art, Tues-Sun, 10/15-1/7: 2018: Arman and Nick Cave are two of the late twentieth-century’s seminal artists whose work embodies the sculptural process of accumulation: the assembling of numerous found objects, often scavenged from everyday sources. Here, a surfeit of objects is the raw material for the artists’ sculptures, even as the objects’ rich associations become vehicles of social commentary or dissent. Local! Nectar, Axial Theatre, Pleasantville – Fri-Sun, 11/3-19: The Axial Theater presents the world premiere of Katie Baldwin Eng’s Nectar. This poignant comedy follows a surprising overnight vigil of a mid-western woman and a French film star, both former mistresses of a legendary French writer who lies in a coma. The play, in staged readings, has already won numerous awards including the Hudson Valley Writers Center New Play Prize. Local! Bedford Village Chowder & Marching Club Fall Dinner Dance, Bedford Hills – Fri, 11/3: It’s the event of the season for BVC&M. Company, Arc Stages Pleasantville – Fri-Sun, 11/3-12: 8 & 2pm: Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s 1970 musical about Bobby, a commitment-phobic New Yorker, who juggles the pros and cons of marriage with the advice of five married couples (also all neurotic) was nominated for 14 Tony Awards and won six, including Best Musical. The songs: “Marry Me a Little”, “The Ladies Who Lunch”, “Being Alive”, “Another Hundred People”, “Getting Married Today”, “You Could Drive a Person Crazy” and “Company”. CraftWestport – Sat-Sun, 11/4-5: 10am-5pm: CraftWesport (from ArtRider, producers of Crafts at Lyndhurst) is the longest running indoor crafts festival in CT. It features 175 vendors displaying a variety of media: clay, glass, painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, furniture, metal jewelry, wearable art and specialty foods. Harvey Presents Glenn Close, The Harvey School – Sun, 11/5: 4pm: American film critic and multiple Emmy Award-winner at WOR-TV and CBS TV, Pat Collins interviews six time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close at the Walker Center for the Arts on The Harvey School Campus in Katonah. Raven Rocks 10K Run, Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Cross River – Sun, 11/12: 9am: The Raven Rocks 10k Run is a the first new trail run at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Cross River, NY in over 20 years. The 10k course climbs up to the two highest points in the park (Raven Rocks Overlook and the Fire Tower Summit) before heading back for a downhill and flat finish. The race supports the Reservation’s Trailside Museum in it’s efforts to bring back the Blue Trail tower to its former spot in the park. (Reservation Rd., Cross River; www.ravensrockrun.org)

CMS of Lincoln Center Flute Affair, Performing Arts Center – Sat, 11/18: 5pm: The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the nation’s premier repertory company, continues it’s collaboration with PAC with another four part series this season. In this first installment they celebrate the flute compositions of four great composers across three centuries. Including the works of Mozart, Beethoven, Hummel and Dutilleux. Classic: Bedford Turkey Trot – Sat, 11/25: 8am: Billed as “the hardest 5K in New York”, the Turkey Trot raises funds for Bedford Community Table/Pantry. The course begins on Court Road at the Bedford Village Elementary School. The halfway point is at the top of Indian Hill Road – not for the faint of heart – and finishes at Bedford Village Memorial Park. There is also a 2-mile walk. Local! The Liar, Armonk Players – Fri-Sun, 12/1-3 & Thurs-Sat 12/7-9: Pia Haas directs David Ives, The Liar, at Armonk’s Whippoorwill Hall. Ive’s adaption of Pierre Corneille’s 17th century comedy, is an urban romance stuffed with alternative facts, mistaken identities, duels and intrigue. Like Corneille’s original, the comedy plays off the title character, Dorante’s compulsive lying. Timely? Ives is best known for his Tony-nominated Venus in Furand for his adaptations of French comedies of manners such as Moliere’s The Misanthrope. Chappaqua Cares Empty Bowls, Crabtree’s Kittle House – Sun, 12/3: 5pm: This event from Chappaqua Cares is a benefit to help raise awareness and funds to combat hunger. This year they will auction off three hand-painted celebrity bowls from: musician Warren Haynes of Gov’t Mule, Bette Midler and a third signed by Bette Midler, David Hyde Pierce, Gavin Kreel and Kate Baldwin. Suzanne Farrell Ballet, Performing Arts Center – Sun, 12/3: 3pm: George Balanchine’s most celebrated muse, Suzanne Farrell, in her company’s final performance ever, serves up a pageant of the choreographer’s handpicked favorites. Including classic works of the canon and iconic works created especially for her by Mr. Balanchine. Local! The Brandenburg Concertos, Bedford Chamber Concerts – Wed, 12/13: 8pm: Wynton Marsalis called Dr. Anthony Newman “the high priest of Bach”. His Bedford Chamber Concerts made our Bucket List so his semi-annual take on the Brandenburg’s would be a Bucket List event on steroids. Newman has performed this Bach holiday staple with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center 12 times at Alice Tully Hall.
