The Haks, Chappaqua Millwood Chamber’s Summer Concerts, Wed, 8/7: 7pm: It took The Haks eight years to get their own Facebook page so you know they’re not your average wedding band. They’re billed as Rock, R&B & Motown but we heard some Allman Brothers, Jerry Garcia and a smokin’ version of what they called Joe Cocker’s “The Letter” but what we all know is originally from The Box Tops. (Take that Gen X-ers!) Summer Concerts conclude with The Chappaqua Orchestra on Wed, 8/14. See you at Recreation Field.
Muppets from Space, Bedford Hills Memorial Park, Thurs, 8/8: 8pm: Bring a beach chair or blanket and enjoy the movie under the stars,with popcorn, Summer Reading prizes, and fun for all ages. Hosted by the Bedford Hills Library, the movie is screened on Sammarco Field. Rainout location is the Bedford Hills Community House
Jurrassic Park, Movie Night at Muscoot Farm, Fri, 8/9: 7:30pm: Spend an evening in Muscoot’s Historic Dairy Barn (moo!) and watch a screening of Steven Spielberg’s film adaptation of Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park. Morning Farm Chores, Muscoot Farm, Sat, 8/10: 8am: Come to the farm before we open to the public for this hands-on farming experience! At Morning Farm Chores, children ages 8 and up along with their grown-ups get to learn the morning routine at Muscoot and help feed cows, collect hen eggs, and more! Ladies & Gentlemen, Armonk’s Wampus Brook Park, Thurs, 8/15: 7:30pm: Summer Concerts at Wampus Brook Park in Armonk wraps up with this performance from Ladies and Gentlemenc who will perform a variety of classic, soul, funk and R&B hits. Picnickers are welcome! This concert is part of the Armonk Chamber’s Third Thursday Celebrations and includes town-wide in-store sales and trunk shows during the day and Kids on the Town entertainment with Michael Salem in Armonk Square from 5:30-7:30pm Picnickers are welcome!
East Coast National Baseball Card Show, County Center, Fri-Sun, 8/16-18: check times: The County Center becomes a sea of baseball cards and memorable with over 300 tables showcasing new Hobby Box series, Sports Card Singles and thousands of autographed baseballs, memorabilia, modern and vintage sports cards. Renaissance Faire, Tuxedo Park, Sat-Sun & Labor Day, 8/17-10/6: 10am-7pm: A romp through Elizabethan England complete with 16th Century games, rides, arts, crafts, food, music and dance in Tuxedo Park. There’s mime, magic, music, comedy and storytellers, pirates, fairies, pole dancing, piping, acrobats, aerialists, a fire circus, birds of prey, sword fighting, knife throwing and the big one … jousting. Carnival Alert! Dutchess County Fair, Rhinebeck, Tues-Sun, 8/20-25: 10am-10pm: 144 acres of bucolic fairgrounds play host to half a million patrons and thousands of farm animals, agricultural exhibits, horticultural displays and carnival rides. Grandstand concerts feature big name bands (check back for details) Plus racing pigs, diving dogs, a horse show, petting zoo, pony rides, jugglers, crafts vendors, food and country fair competitions like goat milking, chicken clucking, and horse shoeing. Santana & The Doobie Brothers, Northwell Jones Beach Theatre, Sun, 8/25: 7pm: Santana celebrates the 20th anniversary of his Grammy Award-winning album Supernatural, (“Smooth”, “Corazon Espinado”) and the 50th anniversary of his performance at Woodstock (“Soul Sacrifice”) He is joined by The Doobie Brothers (“Listen to the Music”, “Black Water”, “China Grove”). General Washington on the Hudson: The Battle of Stony Point Military Reenactment Day at Boscobel, Sun, 8/25: 10am-4pm: The grounds at Boscobel, overlooking the Hudson and West Point, come alive with live military re-enactors. General George Washington will inspect his troops. Encampments from the American Revolution and the Civil War will be situated throughout the West Meadow. Camp life will be demonstrated with inspections, formations, musket firings, artillery demonstrations, and drills. Lime Rock Park Historic Festival, Lakeville, CT, Thurs-Mon: 8/29-/9-2: check times: The east coast’s premier vintage racing and concours event presents three days of on-track racing. Including more than 250 cars and drivers, parading and racing everything from pre-WWI racers to the best competition machines from the 1920s to the 1970s. This year’s featured race group will be Formula Fords. Italian Masterpieces such as Ferrari and Lamborghini will be the stars Sunday’s Concours d’ Elegance. An Evening of Myth & Baseball with the World Champion 1969 New York Mets, Sat, 9/21: 8pm, Tarrytown Music Hall: It was the year of Woodstock. The year Neil Armstrong walked on the moon. 543,000 US military personnel are stationed in Vietnam. And it was the year the Mets won the world series. Amazing! FDR Drive, Chappaqua Millwood Chamber’s Summer Concerts, Wed, 7/31: 7pm: Summer Concerts on Recreation Field in Chappaqua continue with the return of FDR Drive. This multi-vocalist dance band keeps the joint jumping with foot tappers from Motown and Classic Rock through Disco, Salsa and beyond. Chappaqua Summer Concerts continue with R&B band The Haks on Wed, 8/7 and The Chappaqua Orchestra on Wed, 8/14. See you at Recreation Field.
The Sun Kings, Katonah Memorial Park, Thurs, 8/1: 7pm: Bedford Recreation’s Summer Music in the Parks series concludes with the Sun Kings who will perform Beatles Hits & B-Sides at Katonah Memorial Park.
Theatre in the Sanctuary presents Godspell Jr., Westmoreland Sanctuary, Thurs-Fri, 8.1-2: 6:30pm & Sat, 8/3: 2 & 6:30pm: Larry Berkowitz and Denise Simon direct this 60-minute, family friendly production of Godspell. Into the Woods, Hudson Valley Shakespeare, Boscobel, Thurs, 8/1-Sun, 9/8: 7:30pm: HVSF presents it’s first every musical with this production of the beloved Tony Award-winning Broadway hit, Into The Woods from Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. Into the Woods combines fractured fairy-tale favorites, spinning a dark (and campy) tale of magic and its many consequences. Train, Goo Goo Dolls, Alien Stone, Northwell Jones Beach Theatre, Sat, 8/3: 7pm: Two-time Grammy Award-winners, Train’s 2002 album went double platinum on the success of the single “Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)’. They followed up in 2003 with the single “Calling All Angels” that spearheaded there second platinum album. In 2009 their album Save Me San Francisco featured three Billboard Top 40 hits including their 6X platinum single “Hey, Soul Sister”. (Bay Parkway, Wantagh, NY www.jonesbeach.com)
Sheffield Island Haunted Lighthouse, Sat-Sun, 8/3-4: Ferry over to Sheffield Island where ghosts, ghouls and goblins greet visitors to the historic Sheffield Island Lighthouse decorated to provide thrills and chills for kids of all ages.
