Cool! IMAX Movies, The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk – Daily: The Maritime Aquarium screens three movies, seven days a week on their six-story tall IMAQX screen. Now through 3/23: 11am & 3pm see Deep Sea for a plunge into the ocean with dangerous sharks and bizarre sea stars. Playing through 4/5: 12 & 2pm: Dream Big, the first IMAX movie with STEM content; Amazon Adventure, the story of a scientist whose research in the Amazon Rain Forest helped prove Darwin’s theories also plays through 4/5: 1 & 4pm. Shen Yun, Palace Stamford – Thurs-Sun, 3/1-4: six shows: This “awe-inspiring sensation” (ABC) has drawn praise from the likes of Cate Blanchett, Donna Karan, Siegfried & Roy and Kenn Wells of the English National Ballet. Maple Sugar Festival Weekend, Stamford Museum & Nature Center – Sat-Sun, 3/3-4: 11am-2pm. It’s a weekend of maple sugar madness as kids learn not trees are tapped and see how sap is collected. Sugaring Sundays, Teatown Lake Reservation – Sun, 3/4-11: 1, 2 & 3pm: Stoke up the fire, it’s sugaring time at Teatown. Eagles & Chili, Teatown Lake Reservation – Sun, 3/4: 10am-1:30pm: Charlie Roberto leads you on an eagle watching adventure along the Hudson. Meet 10am at Croton boat ramp. Planetarium Shows, Hudson River Museum Planetarium – Sat-Sun, 3/3-31: HRM’s planetarium offers 4 different shows each weekend with at least one for younger audiences. Local! Oklahoma, Byram Hills Varley Players – Thurs-Fri, 3/8-9: 7pm & Sat, 3/10: 2 & 7pm: Byram Hills’ Varley Players take on Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Pulitzer Prize-winning musical based on the 1931 play Green Grow the Lilacs. The original Broadway production, with songs like “Oh, What A Beautiful Mornin”, “The Surrey with the Fringe on Top”, “Kansas City”, “I Cain’t Say No”, “Many a New Day” and “People Will Say We’re in Love”, was a 1943 box office smash and was adapted into an Academy Award-winning film in 1955. Mary and the Witch’s Flower, Jacob Burns Film Center – Sat-Sun, 3/10-11: 12pm: From Studio Ponoc, the new Japanese animation studio created by veterans of Studio Ghibli, Mary and the Witch’s Flower is a fantasy adventure about a daring red-headed girl, a flying broom, and a mysterious, forbidden flower. Created by Hiromasa Yonebayashi (The Secret World of Arrietty) and based on the children’s novel The Little Broomstick, it’s about a bored girl who, with the help of some neighborhood cats, gains magical power for one night. Bedford Playhouse Presents: The Number on Great-Grandpa’s Arm, Fox Lane Middle School – Sun, 3/11: 5-6:30-pm: When ten-year-old Elliott asks his 90-year-old great-grandfather, Jack, about the number tattooed on his arm, he sparks an intimate conversation about Jack’s life that spans happy memories of childhood in Poland, the loss of his family, surviving Auschwitz and finding a new life in America. Followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker Amy Schatz and the film’s narrator ten year old Elliot Saiontz – both Bedford residents.
