BRLA Reaches Out Beyond the Horsey Set
BRLA Reaches Out Beyond the Horsey Set
The all volunteer Bedord Lanes Riding Lanes Association which holds its annual Fall Pace this weekend is democratizing its hitherto invisible riding lanes to the general public through an expanded event lineup – all of which are open to the general public. And many of which are entirely horse free.
Officially founded in 1920, the BRLA maintains more than 100 linear miles of historic trails which connect and extend throughout Bedford, Mount Kisco, Katonah, Bedford Hills, Bedford Corners and Pound Ridge. Members meandering the trails enjoy the beautiful flora, fauna and other natural wonders that make Northeastern Westchester unique. Their trail system is one of the largest remaining networks of private trails. The BRLA maintains and clears the trails year-round to ensure that they are preserved for future generations.
Now those same 100 linear miles of bucolic nature can be accessed by runners, Yoga fanatics, families and even wine connoisseurs. BRLA’s Tavern on the Trails summer soirée this past July sold out in a nano-second. Hey, BRLA let’s play two. Am I right? Who wouldn’t sign up for that? If you prefer non-alcoholic de-stressing than you will be happy to know that on September 12, as part of their new Second Sundays program, they are teaming up with the Bedford Post Inn Yoga studio for their first Trail Walk & Yoga morning. Join BRLA Executive Director Lindsay Hearon and Bedford Post resident yogi Marissa Lieberman for a zen-inspired trail walk at 9am followed by yoga on the Bedford Post Inn terrace at 10am. Lindsay, by the way is too cool for school – and we mean that in a good way.
Also in September you can sign up for their Family Nature Walk with BRLA trail flora and fauna experts Murray Fisher and Jesse Randol. On October 17 BRLA will hold its first Fall 10K on the BRLA trails beginning at John Jay Homestead in Katonah. They also held their first annual 5K race this past May. While many of these events will be open to the general public Lindsay recommends everyone consider becoming a BRLA member for advanced warning on too sexy for your shirt events like their Tavern on the Trails night.
Of course, if you just like watching the pageantry of over a hundred horses gathering on the John Jay Homestead lawns on Pace Day than you can drop in and watch the start and finish of their Spring Hunter Pace in May and their Fall Hunter Pace in September.
