Camp Armonk Sports, Mad Science & Tennis Summer Camps
Camp Armonk Sports, Mad Science & Tennis Summer Camps: Summer camp at Armonk Tennis Club (ATC) has long been a staple for families from Armonk, Bedford, and Chappaqua looking for a variety of fun summer experiences for their kids. With Camp Armonk Sports, a premier multi-sport and enrichment program; Camp Armonk Mad Science, a unique program combining educational elements with athletic activities; and Armonk International Tennis Academy, ATC offers something for everyone.
Camp Armonk Sports
Camp Armonk Sports helps campers entering grades K-5 not only learn the skills and rules of various sports, but also become good leaders and teammates both on and off the field. Led by experienced instructors, campers take part in a variety of activities that develop physical skills like coordination, agility, and endurance, as well as social skills like confidence and sportsmanship.
The activities are organized into two groups: sports and games. The foundation of both is active participation and full gameplay, but the sports group places additional emphasis on practicing the fundamentals of baseball/softball, basketball, flag football, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, and volleyball.
The games group, on the other hand, provides more opportunities for campers to just be active and have fun. Games include capture-the-flag, dodgeball, gaga, kickball, and ultimate frisbee, as well as Camp Olympics and theme days.
Camp Armonk Mad Science
Mad Science uses interactive activities to teach kids entering grades K-5 both practical and amazing science lessons. The camp’s instructors, the dynamic “Mad Scientists”, lead age-appropriate activities that are so fun and engaging that campers almost don’t realize they are gaining a clear understanding of science and how it affects the world around them. Each week focuses on a different theme, such as NASA: Journey Into Outer Space, Red Hot Robotics, Crazy Chemworks, Junior Explorers, Secret Agent Lab, Invention Camp, and Phreaky Physics.
After lunch, Mad Science campers join the other camp groups for field sports, tennis, swimming, and team-building exercises. These athletic activities are intended to develop both physical and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on sportsmanship and teamwork.
For campers who don’t want to participate in the afternoon portion of the program, ATC also offers a half-day option that includes just the Mad Science activities.
Armonk International Tennis Academy Summer Camps
If you would like to focus primarily on tennis, you can choose Armonk International Tennis Academy (AITA), which offers programs for both elite and casual players. With two separate camps, players are able to set and attain their own goals, be it to comprehensively improve their games in a competitive environment, or to learn at a steadier, less intensive pace.
The AITA Advanced Camp is for tournament-level players ages 8-17. The program consists of intensive group drilling, tactical training, private instruction, fitness routines, and more. It runs Monday-Thursday to accommodate players’ tournament schedules, and additional private lessons are also available throughout the week.
The AITA Junior Camp is designed for players ages 6-15 who are not ready for the Advanced Camp. Throughout the five-day week, players enhance their strokes and strategies via skill-building drills and games, situational play, organized matches, individual attention, and more. There are also field sports and swimming activities included throughout the day.
Dates, Times, Discounts and Lunch
In 2019, Camp Armonk Sports and Mad Science run for seven weeks, from July 1-August 16, 9am-4pm. The AITA Junior Camp runs from June 24-August 23 (9am-4pm) and the AITA Advanced Camp runs from July 1-August 22. The week of July 1 is a three-day week for all programs.
