What To expect when you get there
CareMount is offering two types of testing, antibody testing and the PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test. When you see your urgent care provider they will conduct an evaluation to determine which test is best for you based on your symptoms – if you have any. Your provider’s office will notify you about your test results and discuss next steps within 24-72 hours if you take the PCR test or within 72 hours if you are administered the antibody test. If you prefer, you can schedule an appointment with your primary care provider to arrange testing for either test.
Two Types of Testing
PCR testing is a swab test administered through your nasal cavity and provides evidence that the virus is presently in your body and if you might be infectious. Based on the results of your test you may need to remain in isolation. And you may need to contact people you’ve been in touch with so they can be quarantined too.
The antibody test requires blood drawing and is designed to reveal if you have been exposed to the virus and if your body has reacted to it. Caremount Medical emphasizes that the test will not tell you that you are immune to the virus. The test cannot be used to diagnose a new infection or to free you from quarantine. You will have to continue social distancing practices and associated precautions against spreading the virus or further infection, such as wearing a mask. However, if your body does have antibodies to the COVID-19 virus you may be eligible to donate plasma.
