Bedford Playhouse: Broadway in Bedford: The Bedford Playhouse’s new Broadway in Bedford monthly series presents stars from Broadway musicals performing live on the Playhouse Lawn. This week the Playhouse’s outdoor Broadway musical series concludes with a salute to the Golden Age of Broadway with classic songs from the 1940s & 50s.

JOSEPH THALKEN – is an award-winning composer, conductor and pianist whose theater and concert works have been performed internationally. His music has received support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Somerled Charitable Foundation and the Shen Family Foundation. Thalken is the composer of the musicals Harold and Maude, Was, Borrowed Dust, Fall of ’94, and Inventions for Piano. His concert works encompass chamber, choral, orchestral, wind ensemble and vocal music. He has served as music director and/or arranger for luminaries of Broadway and classical music, including Julie Andrews, Patti LuPone, Bernadette Peters, Renée Fleming, Rebecca Luker, Marin Mazzie, Kristin Chenoweth, Liza Minnelli, Polly Bergen, Faith Prince, Elizabeth Futral, Catherine Malfitano, Denyce Graves, Joshua Bell, Michael Crawford, Howard McGillin, Michael Winther, Jason Danieley, Nathan Gunn, Rodney Gilfry and Brian Stokes Mitchell, among many others. After graduating from Northwestern University, he spent five years in Germany and Switzerland where he worked as a coach, conductor and composer. He has taught music theater composition at Yale University and is a long-time resident of New York City.

Janine DiVita made her Broadway debut playing everyone’s favorite bad girl, Rizzo, in Grease.  Other Broadway/National Tour credits include: Anything Goes (Reno u/s), The Mystery of Edwin Drood,  If/Then (Anne), Finding Neverland(Mary), Young Frankenstein (Elizabeth).  Favorite regional credits include: Francesca in The Bridges of Madison County, Lady of the Lake in Spamalot, Rosie in Bye Bye Birdie, Eva Peron in Evita, and many more. Concert work includes: Edmonton Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, International Tour of Broadway Rox, etc . Her two solo shows: Blonde Ammunition and Modern Broad have both played 54 Below in NYC. TV/Film: The Deuce (Amy Goldman), Elementary, The Americans, Gravesend, and Hear My Song opposite Dustin Hoffman.
