Bernie Williams & His All Star Band at The Ridgefield Playhouse
Famed New York Yankees Center Fielder and Latin Grammy nominated jazz guitarist – Bernie Williams returns to The Playhouse ballfield- this time for a concert benefiting The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. Joined by special guests, Bernie will also introduce the winning song of the Breathless Ballad Challenge a lyric competition that was created to raise awareness about idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), the disease that took Williams father’s life. Bernie, along with musician/actress/producer Queen Latifah (whose mother also suffered from the disease), music duo The Bacon Brothers, singer-composer Paul Shaffer, and others, served as judges for the challenge and the winning song of the amateur songwriter competition will be revealed this evening!
Bernie’s first album, The Journey Within featured fusions of jazz, rock and the tropical rhythms of his heritage was success- reaching #3 on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Chart. His second album Moving Forward, featuring guest appearances by Bruce Springsteen, Jon Secada, and Dave Koz made the cut on 5 different Billboard charts and debuted as Billboard’s #2 Contemporary Jazz album, spawning two consecutive Billboard #1 singles, “Go For It,” and “Ritmo de Otono.” The album was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Album in 2009.
