Born on the Fourth of July: The Ridgefield Playhouse reopens under safety guidelines outlined by the state of Connecticut Department of Health including six-foot physical distancing, mask wearing and concessions ordered on your smart phones. Fittingly for Independence Day, the RPH presents a screening of Oliver Stone’s Born on the Fourth of July about a Vietnam Veteran from New York who becomes an anti-war activist after getting wounded and returning to a country deeply divided about the “conflict overseas”. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards including a Best Actor Nomination for Tom Cruise. Oliver Stone won the Oscar for Best Director. With a soundtrack including everything from Henry Mancini’s “Moon River” and Smokey Robinson’s “My Girl” to Bob Dylan’s “…Hard Rain…” and original compositions by “Star Trek” composer John Williams.
