BRLA Spring 5K Trail Run and Spring Pace at John Jay Homestead: Run the stunning (as in, bucolic and beautiful) trails maintained by the Bedford Riding Lanes Association in their second annual Spring 5K. This event was initiated last year to open up the BRLA’s impeccably maintained horse trails to the runners and a larger community. BRILLIANT! Peel back the layers for a peak at this previously secret world of Bedford equestrians – and get a good run, as well. After the race, stay for lunch under the tent at the historic John Jay Homestead.
The BRLA 5K is immediately followed by their annual pace. Hang out and watch the equestrians set out on and return from the trails. The 5K race typically begins at 7:30am with the Spring Pace following at 9am.

Since 1920, the Bedford Riding Lanes Association has maintained a historic system of trails and dirt roads that extends and connects more than 100 linear miles. Their yellow blazed trails meander through Bedford, Bedford Hills, Bedford Corners, Mount Kisco, Katonah, and the Pound Ridge areas. Alongside the local community, the BRLA is actively engaged in preserving “horse country,” as well as its unique, cherished, and rural character.
You can join the BRLA as an Annual Riding, Walking, or Supportive Member to help them preserve a trail that allows for walking and horseback riding in Bedford, NY.
Bedford’s riding trails were first cleared nearly a century ago as an accommodation to the Fairfield-Westchester Hunt. They provided a means for foxhunters to travel across the countryside to meets.
In 1920, a group of horsemen and large property owners established the Private Lanes Association. Their aim was to preserve, protect, and maintain a system of country lanes and trails on private property. This was convenient for equestrians, who were able to avoid the paved roads and increasing automobile traffic. More than 50 miles of such trails were open and additions were constantly made.
