Dark Star Orchestra in Tarrytown: Another tribute band that local music halls can’t wait to book, DSO doesn’t cover Grateful Dead songs – they cover Grateful Dead shows. Each performance faithfully recreates a specific Dead concert (date, time and venue). They performed Dead’s acoustics sets from the Workingman’s Dead/American Beauty era at The Ridgefield Playhouse this summer. They recently performed with Electric Hot Tuna at Red Rocks.
Celebrating their 20th anniversary, DSO has performed over 10,000 shows and have shared the stage with original Dead members. The Chicago Tribune wrote, “DSO sounds more like the Dead than the Dead sometimes did.” And The New Yorker said, “DSO re-creates Grateful Dead shows with flashback inducing meticulousness.”
