Faith in Film Series at The Bedford Playhouse: Alice
Join the Rev. John Zahl (St. Matthew’s, Bedford), for a “Lenten Film Series: Faith in Film” on Sunday nights, Feb 26 – March 26th, featuring a thought-provoking selection of special movies, exploring themes of conversion, humility, forgiveness, faith in the midst of suffering, and grace. Includes a brief introduction by Rev. Zahl followed by a short discussion afterwards.
Alice: Trapped in a boring marriage for 16 years, Alice (Mia Farrow) dreams of having an affair with a sexy saxophone player (Joe Mantegna) she meets at her children’s nursery school.
But besides her bad marriage she seems to have a bad back. So she foregoes a day of high-powered shopping on Fifth Avenue for a trip to Chinatown to see Dr. Yang (Keye Luke), an acupuncturist who recommends mysterious herbal potions instead of needles. One magical concoction breaks down her inhibitions. Another makes her invisible. And yet another lets her see and share tender moments with long lost loved ones!
As her madcap fantasy adventures and her affair with Joe intensify, Alice decides to do something drastic about her superficial life.
