Free! Martin Luther King Celebration at the Ridgefield Playhouse
Ridgefield Playhouse’s Executive Director,Allison Stockel, will receive this year’s Spirit of Dr. King Award which has been given for the past 26 years to a Ridgefield resident for their outstanding commitment to community service. In addition to Allison Stockel’s dedication to many nonprofits in the area, as well as donating her time for the past 20 years to bring the arts to the community, she has also been instrumental in expanding the Martin Luther King Jr. Day ceremony. Nine years ago, Allison Stockel stepped forward, and offered to give the Martin Luther King Day celebration a new home at the Ridgefield Playhouse.
With its home at The Ridgefield Playhouse, this community event has grown with leaps and bounds and now features multiple performers, drawing a crowd of 300 plus attendees. In addition to the awards ceremony, the event will include performances by The Ridgefield Chorale, The Ridgefield Diwali Committee, Ridgefield A Better Chance students, MoJazz Dance, Kimberly Wilson, Daniel C. Levine and Bryan Perri from ACT of CT, town poet laureate Barb Jennes and many others.
The full celebration will also be available to watch live on the The Ridgefield Playhouse YouTube channel on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 17th beginning at 2pm.
