Guys and Dolls @ BHHS: The Byram Hills High School’s Varley Players Spring Musical presents Guys and Dolls, the 1950 Tony Award Winner for Best Musical. Based on the short stories of Damon Runyon, Guys and Dolls, with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Sperling and Abe Burrows, ran for 1200 shows on Broadway. In a footnote to history, the musical was selected as the winner of the 1951 Pulitzer Prize for Drama but was not the selection was vetoed because of the House Un-American Activities Committee’s investigation of Abe Burrows. It was adapted for the silver screen in 1955. The movie musical starred Marlon Brando, Jeanne Simmons, Frank Sinatra and Vivian Blaine. (12 Tripp Ln., Armonk; www.varleyplayers.edu)
