Hudson Chorale: Requiem For Water

Artistic Director David Baranowski leads the chorus in a performance of Reena Esmail’s Malhaar: A Requiem for Water that integrates Hindustani and Western music, with selections from the traditional Latin Requiem, poetry of Wendell Berry and William O’Daly, and Hindi text. The work premiered to great acclaim in 2023 at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. This performance will feature singer Apoorva Mugdal, percussionist Andrew Thomson, and tabla player Haroon Samuel.

Requiem For Water will be followed with Carols and Lullabies, Spanish songs from a variety of traditions including Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Catalonia reconceived as an integrated suite by Conrad Susa. He described it as a “Southwestern pinata party” The chorus will be accompanied by guitarist Dan Lippel, harpist Alyssa Reit, and Andrew Thomson on marimba.
