Jacob Burns Film Center: Jazz for a Summer Day Hosted by John Pizzarelli
JBFC’s Sounds of Summer Series presents Jazz for a Summer Day hosted by John Pizzarelli. This three-part program kicks off with Morning Jam at noon with the EarRegulars playing their brand of swinging, melodic classic jazz, from New Orleans style to Tin Pan Alley. Featuring Jon-Erik Kellso on trumpet, Matt Munisteri on guitar, Scott Robinson on saxophone, and Pat O’Leary on bass.
The day continues at 2pm with a screening of The House of Tom – Mundo, Monde, Mondo, a documentary on Brazilian composer Antônio Carlos Jobim, best known in the US for creating the 1960s bossa nova craze with tunes like “The Girl from Ipanema.” Following the screening there will be a live Bossa Nova performance from Duduka da Fonseca, Maucha Adnet, and Leo Traversa.
Jazz on a Summer Day concludes with a screening of Jazz on a Summer’s Day filmed at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival and a live performance by John Pizzarelli and Catherine Russell. The film features intimate performances from an all-star line-up of musical legends. With stunning footage of jazz greats including Louis Armstrong, Thelonious Monk, Gerry Mulligan, Anita O’Day, Chuck Berry, and Dinah Washington,
