Jacob Burns Film Preservation Series: Tell Me a Riddle/The Stronger

JBFC screens two of the earliest films directed by a woman, both from Academy Award-winning actress Lee Grant. Beginning with The Stronger, a short film adaptation of August Strindberg’s play and her 1980 Tell Me a Riddle, based on Tillie Olsen’s eponymous novella. The film follows the lives of an elderly couple Eva and David, their shared past as revolutionaries, and the journey they take when illness strikes Eva and David decides to keep it a secret.
