John O’Hurley @ The Ridgefield Playhouse: John O’Hurley’s,  best known as J. Peterman on the hit TV series Seinfeld, tour for his new show A Man With Standards comes to The Ridgefield Playhouse. O’Hurley’s show is a  90-minute retrospective on the songs of The Great American Songbook. Complete with musings from his eclectic life and career from Seinfeld and Dancing with the Stars.

Since Seinfeld, O’Hurley has been a host of To Tell the Truth, Family Feud, and NBC’s The National Dog Show.  He even starred in the Tony-winning revival of Chicago at Broadway’s Ambassador Theatre.  O’Hurley even invested in the relaunch of The J. Peterman Company, and since 1999 has been a part-owner and member of the board of directors. And, of course, he was a finalist on Dancing With the Stars in 2005.

We like to call The Ridgefield Playhouse the hardest working venue around. With a seating capacity of 536 seats, compared to 1,8oo for The Capitol Theatre or 1,500 for Paramount Hudson Valley, they can’t rely on a couple of “good gates” a week to pay the rent. Instead, they’re booking every day of the year, except Christmas.

In fact they book 200-225 live shows a year. And they fill in with on-screen events (art house movies and documentaries, Metropolitan Opera, Bolshoi Ballet or National Theatre on screen HD presentations) on the days when they don’t have a live show. But their size may be a blessing in disguise. For them and their patrons. Because it enables them to tap into a wide range of musical talent. And serve up the best lineup of comedy, cabaret, magic and illusion, mentalists and family entertainment in our area.
