Joe Russo’s Almost Dead (JRAD) @ The Cap: Three nights at The Capitol Theatre (capacity 1800) for a Grateful Dead Tribute band. Even with the over the top market for The Grateful Dead (remember when they were this esoteric cult band that never had a Billboard hit?) that tells you something about Joe Russo’s Almost Dead (JRAD).

The band is led by Joe Russo (former drummer for Bob Weir & Phil Lesh’s former band Further) and features Ween‘s bassist Dave Dreiwitz, keyboardist Marco Benevento, Scott Metzger on guitar and vocals, and American Babies‘ Tom Hamilton on guitar and vocals.

JRAD is known for their intermingling of the Grateful Dead’s recognizable folk-rock and Americana sound with more contemporary Progressive Rock and Jazz Fusion influences.

Rolling Stone named JRAD’s Peach Festival performance “Best Scene-Stealer”, saying that, “JRAD takes improvisational jam rock to the nth degree.”
