The Amish Project at The Schoolhouse Theatre: October 3-20: The Amish Project from Jessica Dickey is a fictional account of the West Nickel Mines school shooting in a one-room schoolhouse in Lancaster, PA in 2006. The gunman took hostages and shot eight students, killing five. Dickey’s play focuses on the community’s response of forgiveness and reconciliation that was widely admired by the national press at the time. The play debuted at The Rattlesnake Theatre in Greenwich Village in 2009 and then went on national tour. Neil Genzlinger, theatre critic for The New York Times, called it “a remarkable piece of writing”. Here, Katherine Michell Tanner revisits her performances from the 2009 run.
