Bedford Chamber Concerts: The Brandenburgs are Bach in Bedford: Back by popular demand, Dr. Anthony Newman and guests perform the Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos (complete) at St. Matthew Church in Bedford. Dubbed the “high priest of Bach” by Wynton Marsalis, Dr. Newman has performed the Brandenburgs with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center at Alice Tully Hall twelve times. About Dr. Anthony Newman – the “high priest of Bach”: Dr. Anthony Newman performs the complete Brandenburg Concertos at St. Matthew Episcopal Church in Bedford every other year. This is your lucky year. Dubbed the “high priest of Bach” by Wynton Marsalis, Dr. Newman has performed the Brandenburgs with the Chamber Music Ensemble of Lincoln Center at Alice Tully Hall 12 times.
Wynton Marsalis called Dr. Anthony Newman “the high priest of Bach.” Time magazine called him “the high priest of the harpsichord”. Six times a year he is the high priest of Bedford Village as he performs with special guests at St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Bedford. Musical selections features a veritable smorgasbord of musical offerings, from solo and chamber works to orchestral masterpieces.
Dr. Newman has performed at Carnegie Hall and at Lincoln Center more than 60 times and has collaborated with Kathleen Battle, Itzhak Perlman, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Leonard Bernstein and Eugenia Zukerman. He conducted and arranged In Gabriel’s Garden, the best selling classical music album of 1997, for Wynton Marsalis and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
