Zoom into Beckett’s Endgame from The Schoolhouse Theatre: In it’s first theatrical presentation since the COVID lockdown in March, The Schoolhouse Theatre presents a pop-up ZOOM Reading of Samuel Beckett’s classic play Endgame. This dark tragi-comedy (aren’t they all) from Beckett is set in an apocalyptic end-time with incomparable flashes of the Irish Nobel-winner’s wit – it has a worldwide cult following.

Endgame has never been professionally staged in Westchester County – but this seems like a good time for the Schoolhouse Theater’s Pandemic Players to do so. Some of New York’s finest actors will have a hand in this professional zoom reading: Tim Jerome and Carole Monferdini who squared off so eloquently in Jesse Kornbluth’s masterpiece THE COLOR OF LIGHT, and iconic New York master player Austin Pendleton. Schoolhouse Artistic Director Bram Lewis rounds out the cast…

Actor/Director Pendleton debuted on Broadway as Motel in Fiddler on the Roof, won a Drama Desk Award for his performance in The Last Sweet Days of Isaac, and performed with Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline in Mother Courage and Her Children at The Public Theatre in 2006. He received a Tony-nom in Directing for Little Foxes starring Elizabeth Taylor and Maureen Stapleton. His credits on the big screen are prolific and include Catch 22, The Muppet Movie, My Cousin Vinny, A Beautiful Mind, Finding Nemo and perhaps most famously he was the mysterious Marty in Christmas With the Kranks.

Endgame is a What To Do Fave Rave – having seen the famous Joseph Chaiken production with Daniel Seltzer at McCarter Theatre in 1979.

Endgame, originally published in French as FIN DE PARTIE will continue our Schoolhouse party as we inaugurate this new virtual platform…plans are being cooked up for a lunchtime series… one act plays performed by our “PANDEMIC PLAYERS”.
