Farmer’s Market’s & Farmstands Open for Spring: Here’s our annual update on the local Farmers Markets in Chappaqua, Katonah, and at Muscoot Farm in Somers that will open the first weekend in May. Joining the Pleasantville market that is now open year-round outdoors. But we’ve dug a little deeper for you into a few more markets, U-pick farms, farms with farm stands, brick and mortar markets that offer meat and produce fresh from the farm as well as locally sourced dairy, baked goods and prepared foods. Plus, a members only Farm Share program offered by the grand wizards of sustainable farming and culinary practices, Stone Barn Center for Food and Agriculture.
Chappaqua Farmer’s Market – Sat, 5/7- 11/19: 8:30am-1pm: The Chappaqua Farmer’s Market returns to the train station with a lineup of 51 weekly or monthly vendors. New vendors in 2022 include: 3 X 3 Provisions: Sweet & savory gluten free baked goods from Riverdale; Asian Farmer Dumpling: using locally sourced ingredients from Jericho, LI: Ash Hopper Soap Co.; cold-pressed, hand-crafter, responsibly sourced; Eltee’s Goods: Small batch tomato jams; Fresh Meadow Organic Farm: Black dirt organic produce & herbs; Goode & Local by Don Rodrigo: Iberian fresh pork & charcuterie from Jersey pigs; La Trafila Pasta: Lemon tagliolini to cacio e pepe gnocchi; Marcelina Orange: Dark chocolate dipped candied orange peels, and marmalade; R&M Farm: Pasture-raised beef, chicken & pork; (Chappaqua Train Station; www.chappaquafarmersmarket.org)
John Jay Homestead, Sat, 5/7-10/9: 9am-2pm: For a real feel of the country drive up Rt. 22 to the John Jay Homestead where you go to market with grass under your feet, surrounded by historic buildings and great Americana style music that’s as vintage as the carriage barn. Muscoot Farm, Sun 5/8-11/20: 9:30am – 2:30pm: The Muscoot market is the only Sunday market in our area. Muscoot is our area’s smallest market with 23 vendors but every week you can find multiple produce vendors, meat, seafood, pasta, baked goods, cheese, coffee, pickles and a host of specialty items such as lavender, chutney, and honey. Plus, it’s on a real farm with farm animals and 11 historic buildings (we love the blacksmith shop) and seven miles of forest trails. (Rt. 100, Somers; www.muscootfarm.org)
Mount Kisco Farmer’s Market, Sun, 5/15-11/13: Mt. Kisco’s new farmer’s market that will open week later on Sunday May 15 is a welcome addition to the ABC town area for those who can’t get to the market on Saturday morning. Held weekly through November 13 at the Mt. Kisco train station, the Mt. Kisco Sunday Farmer’s Market features vendors who grow, produce, catch, raise their own product, and are local to our community. (Mt. Kisco Train Station; (mkfarmersmarket.com)
Pleasantville Farmers Market – Outdoors all year, April to November times: 8:30am-1pm: Westchester’s largest market with over 60 vendors in peak season is open outdoors all year with extended hours April to November. Their website’s vendor map features a scrolling list of each week’s vendors. Or throw caution to the wind and check out their regular offerings of fruits and vegetables; artisanal bread, bakery and dairy products; meats, fish and poultry; wine and gluten free products and prepared foods. Gossett’s Farmers Market at Gossett Nurseries, South Salem – Open year round, Sat, 9am-2pm: This local nursery invites farmers in year round with fresh, organic food items from seafood to dairy, honey, baked goods and specialty foods. Including homemade Polish foods, Blessed Brew Kombucha and South Salem Winery. During the winter the market moves inside to the greenhouse. Brilliant! (1202 Old Post Rd., Rt. 35, S. Augustine’s Farm, Greenwich, CT – Weekdays: 10am – 2pm. If you need farm fresh eggs, produce, fresh cut flowers and the best honey this home grown family farm on Greenwich’s King St., just outside Armonk fits the bill. With corn, asparagus, heirloom tomatoes, squash, cucumber, beets, carrots, onions, watermelon, cantaloupe, honey dew, orange flesh melon, strawberries, blueberries, avocado, grapes, cherries, honey, dressings and fresh cut flowers. De Maria’s Country Butcher Shop at Hemlock Hill Farm, Cortland Manor – Open year round: Mon-Sat: 9am-5:30pm & Sun: 9am-2pm; Open seven days a week, year-round for free-range poultry, custom pork, lamb, goat and beef, and country-fresh eggs. John Boys Outpost, Bedford – Open year round, Tues-Sun, 8am-6pm: At farmer John Ubaldo’s storefront market in Bedford Village you can pick up a selection of local produce plus Black Angus beef, Berkshire pork, bacon, sausage, duck, duck eggs, yogurt, honey, and cheese from 100% grass-fed cows from his Cambridge, NY farm. They also serve great baked goods, the best bacon and egg sandwich in Westchester County, rotisserie chickens and whatever meat or poultry they’re cooking up – dine in or take out. Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard, North Salem – Open Daily: 9am-5pm: Famous for their apple picking festivals, Harvest Moon’s Farm Store is open year-round offering their own fruits and veggies, free range eggs, grass fed beef and pasture raised pork. Plus dairy, honey, maple syrup, pasta and fine foods from NY State. You can even buy a whole (half or quarter) cow or pig and they have great apple cider donuts. Hilltop Hanover Farm Stand & U-Pick, Yorktown Heights – April 22 to mid-November: Fri: 1-6pm; Sat: 10am-4pm. Offers fresh, farm-grown produce, seasonal vegetables, herbs and cut flowers. Rochambeau Farm, Mt. Kisco – Wed-Sun: 10am-4pm: Organic farm-fresh produce and flowers from their garden. Plus specialty and prepared foods from a long list of locally sourced vendors including baked goods, dairy, beverages, ice cream, chocolate, coffee and teas, meats, granola, honey, nuts, olive oils, pickles, preserves, pastas, spices and animal treats.
