Funny Docs coming to ChappPac
Funny Docs coming to ChappPac: So, a urologist, a pediatrician and a pharmacist walk into a bar… What? You’ve heard that one before? Have you heard the one about the compliance officer? Okay, but have you heard that a urologist, a pediatrician, a pharmacist and a compliance officer will star in Northern Westchester Hospital’s Amateur Night Of Comedy on Saturday, April 27 (8pm) at the Chappaqua Performing Arts Center? Well you heard that one here first!
The event, to benefit the hospital’s School-based Health Education Program, was conceived and organized by longtime Westchester residents and siblings Lisa Schwartz and Scott Horwitz. Ms. Schwartz is a member of the NWH Board of Trustees and community leader who lives in Bedford. Mr. Horwitz, a longtime resident of Chappaqua who currently resides in Bedford Hills, has been making people laugh for many years with his unique style of observational humor and will serve as the evening’s emcee.
So that’s what they’re doing while you’re in the waiting room…
“In the course of serious conversations at NWH, I noticed there are many people at the hospital who are hysterically funny. I thought we needed to harness this positive energy, and I realized I knew just the guy to do it—my brother,” says Ms. Schwartz. “Laughter has great therapeutic value. We thought a night of comedy would be a wonderful way to engage the community and raise money for a really important cause.”
NWH’s School-based Health Education Programs provide free health and nutrition learning to pre-school, elementary, middle and high school students in over 36 Westchester schools. In 2018, the program reached more than 11,600 students through over 350 programs on nutrition, anxiety, vaping, healthy relationships and more. The program is funded largely through philanthropy, and the money raised by the Night of Comedy will be used to develop curriculum, content and teaching materials.
Observational humor from a urologist – this we gotta see!
According to Mr. Horwitz, more than 20 people auditioned to perform at the Night of Comedy, and the pool of strictly amateur comedians were so funny, the cast was expanded from six to eight performers. “We can all use a prescription for laughter,” he says, explaining that he is coaching the performers to help them structure their delivery, work on timing, use a mike, and move on stage. “Much of the humor is anecdotal and observational. We’re expecting this to be a truly joyful evening that celebrates the hidden talents of the NWH community and provides some serious funding for the programs that the hospital brings to the schools in our community.”
