About Patrick Dougherty: Ed Habermann Award
Patrick Dougherty was a beloved guidance counselor at Horace Greeley High School for 15 years before passing away suddenly last spring. A highly regarded guidance counselor who went above and beyond to help his students socially, emotionally and with college readiness and application support, Mr. Dougherty, along with his colleagues in the Greeley guidance department helped connect students in need with HGSF. Known for being extremely caring and a terrific listener, his dedication to his students and their futures made a significant and positive impact on many young lives.
Patrick lived in Pleasantville, NY with his wife, Jeanie Gayeski, and their two daughters, Sophia & Catherine. He was an avid cyclist who enjoyed being out in nature.
About Linda & Ed Bosco: Taylor Family Award of Distinction
Linda and Ed Bosco have raised their three daughters in Chappaqua since 2002.
Linda has been active in student theater and served as a parent producer for 7 years. In 2015 she joined the board of KJK Productions, a children’s theater company. Linda is on the board of the Chappaqua Youth Soccer Club and is a member of the St. John and St. Mary’s Women’s Association. This year Linda helped deliver the first annual Casey Taub Golf Outing and promote the Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival. A teacher by training, Linda helped revitalize the greenhouse at Grafflin and ran the program for 10 years before expanding hydroponics to Bell. Linda now teaches part-time at Arch for Kids, a not for profit that introduces elementary school students to architecture and STEM.
A dedicated advocate of STEM education, this spring will mark Ed’s 10th year at the PTA’s Middle School Career Day. Ed joined the board of the Chappaqua School Foundation in 2014 to advance the completion of the iLab at Greeley and remains active in CSF today. Over the past 15 years he has used his New York City engineering firm and his position on the board of the American Council of Engineering Companies to expose more than 45 students to their first engineering job.
ABOUT HORACE GREELEY SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Established in 1946 by Horace Greeley High School students, the Horace Greeley Scholarship Fund exists to make up “the difference” between the actual costs of college and all other financial resources available to students and their families. Over the last seventy-two years, hundreds of Greeley students have been awarded need-based grants from the Fund. Last year alone, it was able to award $312,000 in grants, but had unmet need of over $500,000. We expect the need to increase in the 2019-20 school year. Continued community support will enable HGSF to make college a reality for all Greeley graduates.
