Worth the Trip: Best Menus HVRW
Apropos at The Abbey Inn, Peekskill: This 2023 Michelin Recommended restaurant & bar under the guidance of acclaimed chef Peter Kelly offers an HVRW menu featuring Roast Rack of Pork with Crisp Apple Fritter; Shrimp & Scallop Sauté with Fresh Tarragon in Puff Pastry; Seared Salmon with Chili & Yuzu Glaze; Wild Mushroom Risotto with Barolo Syrup & Parmigiano Cookie; Almond Cake With Blueberry Compote, and Apropos Hot Fudge Sundae with Candied Pecans & Crème Chantilly. Sounds like a find.
Crabtree Kittle House, Chappaqua: (Lunch: Tues—Sat & Dinner: Tues—Fri & Sun) The New Castle stalwart Crabtree’s HVRW menu is inspired this year beginning with a “hard to choose” starter menu offering dizzying highlights such as Maine Lobster Bisque with Truffle Lobster Salad; Florida Red Snapper Ceviche, and Organic Sweet Potato Gnocchi. For The Mains I have my eye on the Garganellie Bolognese and the Slow Braised Grass-Fed Beef Short Ribs. And for dessert I’m having the Chocolate Chip Brioche Bread Pudding with hudson bourbon cream.
La Barbirria, Beacon: Lunch & Dinner: Mon, Tues, Thurs & Sun. This authentic Mexican Kitchen is a new find for us but we’re liking their HVRW menu. I’m starting with the Shrimp Ceviche appetizer (lime, tomato, onion, cillantro) and I’m taking two friends so I can taste all their Mains: Bistec A La Mexicana (skirt steak); Mixed Street Tacos (carnitas, pollo asado, steak); and the Pescaod Frito (whole friend red snapper with rice & beans.) And, of course, the Tres Leches for dessert.
Le Provencal, Mamaroneck: Lunch: Mon—Fri & Dinner: Sun—Fri: Call us old fashioned but we always have to find a French option for HVRW. And this clubby Mamaroneck bistro has always delivered for us. Their HVRW menu is all musseled up with French classics including Moules “Poulette”; Leg of Lamb Brochette; Beaf Bourguignon; Crème Caramel, and Chocolate Mousse Tart. There’s also a pork shank with spring vegetable risotto; John Dory with tomato, basil,, garlic, eggplant caviar, and Serge’s Banana Cake, chocolate, vanilla, almonds.
