Hudson Valley Restaurant Week: Spring 2016
Hudson Valley Restaurant Week Spring 2016: Foodies know the drill! Hudson Valley Fall Restaurant Week (HVRW) lasts from Mon, 3/7 to Sun, 3/20. During HVRW you can lunch for just $20.95 or dinner for $29.95 at 131 restaurants in Westchester County and another 99 throughout the Hudson Valley. It’s a great excuse to duck your head into some of your favorite local eateries. If you are feeling ambitious or just itching to get away from town, we carefully screened the list and came up with seven HVRW participants that have no blackout dates (or exclusions we can live with) where you will save big and that are worth the trip.
Reconnect with your favorite local eating-house even if you have to say TGIF on a Tuesday.

Worth The Trip
The Cookery (including Chef DiBari’s Whole Suckling Pig Dinner) – Dobbs Ferry: Chef David Dibari’s neo-nostalgic Italian in Dobbs Ferry heads our list this year because they are offering their famous Whole Suckling Pig Dinner at HVRW prices. WOW. DiBari’s “pig meal” is served family style and includes a market appetizer, whole suckling pig, three market sides and dessert. If you are a “piggy” foodie this is totally worth the trip. Best of all, there are NO BLACK OUT DATES. The only caveat is you must book for a party of 6-8. Calling our BFFs now! (Serving D, Tues-Sun for HVRW.) Here’s the HVRW menu. (39 Chestnut St., Dobbs Ferry, 914.305.2336; www.thecookery.com)
Crave Restaurant – (Under the bridge in) Poughkeepsie: Tucked under the Walkway Over the Hudson, you can tie in a scenic walk over the river on this steel cantilevered bridge built in 1889 with a meal at this Top 20 rated restaurant in Westchester/Hudson Valley. Best of all this New American has no HVRW exclusions. (Start texting your friends.) Their HVRW menu is online and looks amazing: We’re having the Wild Mushroom Tagliatelle with truffle butter and pecorino, the Low Country Shrimp with wild hive polenta and pickled green tomato relish and the Flourless Chocolate Torte with mint ice cream. Here’s the menu. (129 Washington St., Poughkeepsie, 845.452.3501; www.craverestaurantandlounge)
Benjamin Steakhouse – White Plains: Benjamin Steakhouse’s HVRW participation excludes Saturday but, White Plains is close enough for a late Friday or early Sunday dinner. And anytime you can get a wedge salad or a lobster bisque, a USDA Prime, Dry-Aged Sirloin steak, creamed spinach or mashed potatoes and carrot cake or chocolate mousse cake at Westchester’s top rated steak house for $29.95 … it’s worth the trip. (619 West Hartsdale Rd., White Plains; 914.428.6868; www.benjaminsteakhouse.com)
Ristorante Caterina de’ Medici – Hyde Park: Caterina de’ Medici’s highly rated Tuscan cuisine, impressive décor and service makes it a perennial favorite in the Hudson Valley. Its sophisticated dining room with crystal chandeliers, overlooking the Hudson River at the Culinary Institute in Hyde Park, provides a touch of elegance that makes the trip to Hyde Park worth it. Check out the home of FDR and the FDR Presidential Library and Museum, just a mile down the road, for a rendezvous with history while you are there. No excluded days. (1946 Campus Dr., (Rt. 9) Hyde Park; www.ciarestaurants.com)
Restaurant X & Bully Boy Bar – Congers: We love that Peter Kelly plays HVRW with no blackouts but don’t dawdle if you want to get into Restaurant X. Set in a country house in Congers it offers a variety of rooms each with its own distinctive ambience. Including, the Bully Boy Bar where dinner is served next to a roaring fire. Kelly’s New American cuisine, here, is rated neck and neck with X2O but offers a very different vibe if you prefer a more intimate setting. Serving L&D, Tues-Thurs for HVRW. Here’s the menu. (117 Rt. 303 N., Congers, www.xaviers.com)
Union Restaurant & Bar Latino – Haverstraw: If you are the top rated Latin in the Hudson Valley, you’re playing HVRW with NO EXCLUSIONS, and you’re just 43 minutes from downtown Armonk then you’re gonna make WTD’s HVRW Worth the Trip list. Chef David Martinez started as a dishwasher at Peter Kelly’s Xavier’s and rose to Executive Chef at Kelly’s Freelance Café – now the highest rated restaurant in the entire Hudson Valley. At Union Restaurant & Bar Latino, Martinez fuses New American cuisine with Latin influences creating a menu of sophisticated comfort food with good service and a fun environment in a charming old brick building. (Serving L&D, Tues-Sun for HVRW.) Here’s the menu. (24 Main St., Haverstraw, 845.429.4354; www.unionrestaurant.net)
Valley Restaurant, Inn At The Garrison: Forget about the traditional Windsor chairs in their dining room and that it’s located in an Inn at a golf club. Valley is a well rated farm to table eatery with an up to date New-American menu and notable Hudson Highland views. Their HVRW menu include Parsnip Soup with duck confit, chives and sea salt and Yellow Fin Tuna Tartare with yuzu, ponzu, scallion and baguette for starters; Braised Pork Shank with Dijon Spaetzle, compressed red cabbage, green apple and sage and Wild Atlantic Cod with leeks, wild hive polenta and verjus emulsion for the second course. We’re going with the Dark Chocolate Cake with whiskey caramel sauce, caramel popcorn and burnt cinnamon sorbet for dessert. (Serving D, Thurs-Sat for HVRW.) (2015 US 9 at Snake Hill Rd., Garrison, 845. 424. 3604; www.thegarrison.com)
X2O Xavier’s on the Hudson – Yonkers: Chef Peter Kelly’s waterfront spectacular in Yonkers was voted the Most Popular Restaurant in Westchester County and the Hudson Valley for two consecutive years in the Zagat’s Survey. The restaurant sits in the Hudson River on a turn of the century Victorian pier. Its main dining room with 25 foot vaulted ceilings and walls of glass offer river views from the Tappan Zee to the George Washington Bridge. Peter Kelly’s New American menu with Mediterranean and Asian influences regularly scores in the top ten in the Hudson Valley. Serving L&D, Tues-Sun for HVRW with NO EXCLUSIONS! All that will get you on WTD’s HVRW Worth the Trip list! Here’s the menu. (71 Water Grant St., Yonkers; www.xaviers.com)
