Jennifer Katz: Help During Times of Uncertainty
During times of uncertainty and upheaval, we can often feel like there is no ground beneath us. We find ourselves grasping at external things for some sense of safety and order. But while this may give us some momentary pleasure, we eventually find that it doesn’t last. And we then grab for something else. For many of us, during this time of COVID, the old way of coping is just not working and we feel more anxious and alone than ever. The good news is that this is actually an opportunity for real change. This is a time to rediscover the anchor that has always been there, the part of ourselves we can return to even when life seems the most challenging.
Jennifer Katz: Somatic Experiencing
I am a psychotherapist who specializes in a practice called Somatic Experiencing. Somatic Experiencing is a mind-body approach to relieving stress and trauma. When we have been under stress for prolonged periods of time our bodies go into “fight or flight” mode and our vision becomes very narrow and constricted. We can feel like we are losing ourselves and the simple pleasures of life. I believe that this can be used as an opportunity to let go of old patterns and fears that have held us back and we can move into a future of new possibilities. In my practice, I work with clients in a very gentle and supportive manner, helping to release “stuck”energy, which in turn creates new pathways of healing. Ultimately, the nervous system becomes more regulated, and one feels more present, grounded and open.
