Katonah Art Center Coming to Mt. Kisco
Katonah Art Center Coming to Mt. Kisco: The Katonah Art Center (known by staff and students as KAC) will begin a new chapter this fall with a move to 40 Radio Circle in Mt. Kisco. This new move puts this iconic art studio and education center for kids, teens and adults in the hub of Northern Westchester with easy access for families in Armonk, Bedford & Chappaqua. You can check it out, meet the instructors and try your hand at some art at their Open House on Sat, September 15 from 1:30-3:30pm.
“We’re thrilled with our new location,” KAC owner Loren Anderson told us. “In Katonah, we drew lots of students and campers from the ABC towns and the new location in Mt. Kisco is even more central to our student base. Our newly renovated space at 40 Radio Circle will features tons of parking, bigger painting studios, a sunny kids studio, a computer lab, a dedicated glass and metal studio and two clay studios equipped with a new gas kiln.
Over 100 Different Classes plus Specialty Workshops
KAC, a long-time What To Do sponsor, who we’ve featured before offers the most comprehensive hands-on art programs in Northern Westchester. They offer 182 classes for kids beginning at two years old to adults in 34 different visual arts media from Clay to Animation, Drawing and Painting to Digital Photography, Sewing and Fashion Design, 3D Printing, Sculpture, Oils Acrylics and Pastels, Manga (Japanese Cartooning) and more.
Basic classes are offered to age appropriate groups from Young Kids (6 months to 4 years) Kids (ages 3-5) Kids (ages 6-11) Teens (grades 6-12) and Adults (18 & up). Some specialized classes like Spaceship Design/3D or Artmoji/3D (grades 2-5), and Sculpture and More (grades 1-8) are offered to targeted developmental age groups.
Spend some time perusing their class list for inspiration and you will see how KAC’s programmers cover all the traditional and foundational art skills while still staying relevant to new art forms dictated by cultural and technological changes. At KAC you can find classes in Drawing, Still Life Painting, Portraiture and Pottery. But you’ll also find classes in Digital Painting, Stop Motion Animation and 3D Printing. Additionally there are 29 classes designated exclusively for adults and several writing classes taught by author Kim Kovach.
Mud & Merlot and Art & Pizza Nights
If you’re looking for a social art experience, you might be interested in Mud & Merlot or Pinot & Paint where you can get on the potters wheel to make yourself a vase and enjoy your favorite quaff as well – BYOB! Unlike most wine and paint parties, KAC’s are taught by professional artists from their staff. They even offer a Kids Art & Pizza Night and a teen social with their Friday Night Manga Club – pizza provided.
For serious art students who are interested in studying art in college, KAC offers a Portfolio Development and a Portfolio Coach program for students seeking personalized help in developing their portfolio. Their Portfolio Development program, is very popular and has helped students get accepted to some of the best art school in the country.
Not ready to commit to a class but wouldn’t mind slinging some mud or getting in front of an easel for a night? KAC offers a variety of Specialty Workshops – usually 2 to 3 hours long in the afternoon and evenings where the instructor will walk you through the creation of your own work of art to take home. Materials are provided by KAC for all workshops.
Summer Camps, Holiday Camps & Parties!
The KAC Summer Camp program is a mainstay of the Center’s offerings. This summer they offered 58 one-week, half-day camps for kid’s ages 3.5-5 years, grades 1-5 and grades 6-12. They also offer holiday mini-camps during most school breaks throughout the year.
Finally, KAC offers themed parties for children where you can choose from a KAC project or customize the party to your own liking. Teen Party options include hammered letter jewelry, clay silver, beading, painting and pottery. Ask about adding on henna, t-shirts, flip-flop decorating, make-up, nail art and more. “But the fastest growing part of our party business is adult parties,” Loren Anderson told us. Their adult parties include Mud & Merlot, Pinot & Paint and Fused Glass and Fromage. They’re great for corporate team-building, ladies night, bridal showers or just for a hoot.”
